    Swirl tutorial??

Newbie a swirl tutorial would be great! For me it would have to be pretty basic. Despite having made a lot of soap for the last 3 years I only do spoon swirls, usually in just two colors. For me it is a matter of time efficiency. However, I do enjoy looking at the partially melted bars and...

first two soaps as a civilian

Thanks for the kind words. The lavender color is from infused alkanet. Seawolfe, the most almond oil I have used is 60%. At that level I loved it and other people did too. I don't know where a civilian can get good olive oil or pomace around here (Smart's and final's is not dated and I...

first two soaps as a civilian

Thank you! They are made from soaps with different textures for a gentle 'scrub' effect. I make a version with and without poppy seeds (the only particles falling into the drain but it is minimal) and it seems the poppy seeds are a favorite. I like them both ways.

first two soaps as a civilian

First soaps made after officially closing my business. These are for our use and maybe a couple for trading or gifting. The creamy one is 100% sweet almond oil and raw goat milk, no scent. I call it an almond goat milk castile (I realize this is not accurate). Intended for sensitive skin...

    # 15 use in gumbo I meant Gumbo Z'herbes why not? I do admit to herbivorous tendencies though. We all like different things.

    things to do with a zucchini...or 2...

I would love it if someone left a summer squash on my porch! this year I have none. Something to do with trying to move to Europe and then not moving just yet?. Here are a few more suggestions (from the original garden web thread) 52. Zucchini candy 53. Coarsely grate or thinly slice...

    things to do with a zucchini...or 2...

I found that making chow chow and canning the chow chow helped us preserve LOTS of zucchini, and also make some people happy for Christmas. I have not made the mock apple pie, but I would just goggle 'zucchini mock apple pie '. My guess would be brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon zest, vanilla...

    things to do with a zucchini...or 2...

That's right, they eat courgettes, aubergines, and capsicums. Now if you just add tomatoes, onions and garlic, there you have.....ratatouille!

Question re creating colorants using organics

Seawolfe yes, I dissolve a small amount of indigo in the lye water (or other liquids). I even do it in goat's milk but then I get a green rather than blue jean blue. Since some of the crystals are larger and harder to dissolve, sometimes I powder them further using a tiny mortar and pestle...

an online friend has asked me to make them a patchouli scented soap

Not only does patchouli EO stick really well, it helps make other scents stick better, both FOs and EOs. For straight patch, I find 1 1/2 oz in my 2 lb mold is strong enough for most people (and waaay too strong for those that don't like patchouli). I personally love it, and I like to blend it...

Question re creating colorants using organics

I have had pretty good results using indigo for blues and greens. All blue and greens in these pictures are from indigo. Chemical reaction somewhat similar to what happens when dying jeans - lye reduces it - indigo molecules appear blue upon contact with oxygen - dying fabric still on my...

Question re creating colorants using organics

The only faders I observed were madder root and paprika at low concentrations, the amount you would use for a peach color. Paprika used at higher concentration gives me a brick color that does not fade, but it causes the soap to accelerates. Annatto, alkanet, and indigo have given me great...

    Making brown soap look pretty?

A stamp can also make a brown soap look nicer. I have seen some folks use golden or copper colored mica with the stamp, that would look super nice with brown.

    Still very drying

I make vegan palm free soaps, but can't give you much advice, since I usually include more than 25% Coconut oil. Some folks have a sensitivity to coconut, so you could get a small amount of babassu for one batch, switch coconut for babassu and see if this makes a difference. Babassu is just...

What type of soaper are you? (humor thread)

naturalist, veggie, hard bar, ten minute tracer, latherist, and namer. Ten minutes, seriously? this is a long time, I'd say 1-5 minutes for me. trying to suppress tendencies toward scenter and colorist.

What to do with this salve?

Rosemary stimulates circulation, so it works well with other herbs, possibly speeding their action. I use rosemary with calendula and nettles, rosemary and calendula are fine too.
