    Santa came early!

I had wanted a stand mixer for some years, when I was still baking and was planning on making several different baked goodies from scratch. But mostly I wanted it for my husband's and everyone else's favorite, pound cake. So, last thanksgiving when there was a great deal at kohls, hubby bought...

    Homemade coconut oil for soapmaking

Cool video. Since I'm in my home country India now, where we break a coconut on most every occasion, I should have plenty of coconut meat to try this project but then again, CO is so readily available too. I think I would atleast try upto the point of getting oil just for fun. It looks like a...

sticker shock: want to make my own

Rusticescentuals.com has a lot of tutorials in their library section. I think their main focus is candle supplies and scents.

What if your preferred soap thickness?

I also prefer 1.25 inches as well. Nothing less, nothing more. I think there's a science to it, most commercial bars are that thick as well. OO2, my molds are just 3" wide and my cured bars are a little over 4 oz.

And all us 'non thanks giving ' people are like....

Shhh, you shouldn't have said that, lol ! The weather turned around and rained all day yesterday. Atleast it wasn't snow and sleet and today looks better already.

And all us 'non thanks giving ' people are like....

I live in the thanksgiving and Black Friday nation. I don't celebrate anything but did some shopping for my upcoming india trip, coming Tuesday. I also got myself a crock pot and couple of SBs in the cheap, to use for soaping after I come back.

Input on Exotic Butter Heavy Soap

That's way too many oils and butters in a single recipe. I would rather take out the canola oil and one of rice bran/ avocado oil and add that to olive oil. You could use all those butters but you will definitely need some bubble boosters in there especially with that low CO. Also some sodium...

    Where to buy containers?

I wish we had a thumbs down option so we can quietly show our disapproval. How can anyone go from ' I just started making products for myself ' to ' I know the ins and outs of business ' within 3 posts? 1. You could've been clear in the very first post 2. You could've just skipped the whole...

    Ash

Lol ! I saw that video very early on when I wasn't dealing with loaf molds of any kind.So it didn't elicit any dramatic reaction, it just quietly settled into the 'tips and tricks' bin in a corner of my brain.

    Rustic Vanilla Beer Soap

The soap itself is beautiful but the label is not organized very well I must say, sorry!

    Rustic Coffe soap

Thats a really beautiful soap. I loved seeing many beautiful soaps but this one has something magical about it and I agree, the crinkle cut enhances the awesomeness. But, did you really use all that ground coffee in the OO sludge, all 200 grams of it?

    Henna in soap?

I used to use henna on my hair and on my hands as mehandi designs. What I know is that it releases its red pigment in a relatively acidic mix. Soap being alkaline in nature don't know what happens really. If my one batch of herbal shampoo bar with henna and several other herbs is any indication...

What qualifies a soapmaker to be an "artisan"?

DeeAnna, I wonder if you ever shared pictures of your artsy-fartsy ones. If you haven't, please do. I'm sure we will enjoy looking at them just as we enjoyed all your swirly soaps this month. I know it's leather but art is art and I find true artists very inspirational.

    Lotion is a pain

Yeah, definitely mix right after the holding phase. The optiphen plus goes in after the lotion cools down below 45 Celsius, must be some 110 Fahrenheit. Also, my first thought looking at your picture was air space. Or was it separation? If it is the air, I would suggest you bottling up while the...
