    Washing wooden molds

I'm with you, not_ally. My wooden log mold is so warped it doesn't fit properly together anymore. I have to depend on the silicone liner to shape my soap. Even before it got all warpy it was a huge PITA to put together.

    swirling in MP soaps

It's not impossible if you use lsg's method. I do it fairly frequently but you have to watch the temp and be careful not to overstir. It is nothing like CP swirling and if I haven't made MP in some time I lose the knack and do ridiculous things that end in failure. (Ask me about my attempted...

    best cherry almond?

I second cmzaha on BB's Cherry Almond. Smells exactly like Jergens and is super strong. I hate it so I made a ton of soap with it to give to a friend who loves the fragrance. To each his or her own.

    newbie fights with trace

Wow, thanks, Susie! How did you know I have bars of unscented but perfectly good failures lying around? So, if I understand correctly, I can ensure there is a thin trace, pour out my flat layer to the top of the log mold, go scoop the cat litter, take out the garbage, play a little Candy Crush...

    newbie fights with trace

I've making CP for about a year now and am still trace-challenged. From my observation, once your batter has emulsified, you can continue to beat it into any density of trace desired, correct? But it will continue to thicken even if you're not standing over it burning out your stickblend motor...

How to label micas in soaps

Aha. Thank you, maya. Marie's book is going for $750 for a used paperback on Amazon, so I checked her blog. If ingredients listing is not required by U.S. law (yet), I'd still like to inform the consumer as to what's in their soap. I wouldn't want someone with a tree-nut allergy unwittingly...

How to label micas in soaps

I was coming here to ask the same thing. I made a spreadsheet of all ingredients' INCI names and still can't figure out the U.S. law for labeling. For example, my Mardi Gras soap, which uses three colors made up of six micas and pigments, would be compliantly labeled thusly: Olea Europaea...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Bought half-crates for my soaps, which look fantastic. Re-organized all my EOs and FOs by type and put them on my crafting shelves in pretty boxes with a list on the outside (and stars beside whatever I'm low on). Noted the cure date for the soaps, put together a package for a friend's dad who...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Bought some wooden slatted drawers because my soap collection is growing out of control. Made Beltane soaps for my Wiccan friends (BB's Grass Stain and Sunny Herb Garden) and LOST a batch of olive-scented soap which it took 40 minutes of frantically running around the house to find.

    Disturbing changes in U.S. policy

My understanding of it is that Sen. Diane Feinstein is the one to write to--A-M and a coalition met with her in D.C. last December to discuss the bill. IT did not pass but wasn't killed. Salted between each absurd requirement is a demand for "fees." It's hard enough to make a profit selling soap...

    Disturbing changes in U.S. policy

You guys! This just in on the Soapqueen blog. I didn't see it addressed elsewhere in the forum. Here is the relevant bit about potential changes in the FDA's Food Drug, and Cosmetics Act and the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act. These proposals addressed issues such as new registration...

    Advice on DIY silicone molds

Brambleberry's FlexyFast is great for making molds. I've only done individual ones so far.

    Hard to make plain soap?

It's funny what attracts people--bells and whistles sometimes; sometimes simplicity. I was so proud of my 100 percent coconut oil laundry bars and the stain sticks and laundry butter I lovingly made from them. I send a jar of the butter and a stick, all wrapped in kraft paper and lace, with...

    Pigments gone wild

This may be of interest but it did not turn green--it was this color when it hit the soap. Since so much of CP is decidedly not WYSIWYG, I shrugged it off, with reservations. Should have added more. I'm not sure I'll try these pigments again anytime soon. I agree with HorseCreek--they never...

    Pigments gone wild

oh, wow. OK. I'm always afraid of coloring washcloths so perhaps too timid on my colorant amounts. This was a 49-ounce batch (all told) and it seems the pigments just gave up and went home. 1 failure for every 2 successes lately. Thanks for your help lionprincess!

    Pigments gone wild

In percentages: 30 coconut oil/30 lard/30 (light, not green) olive oil/10 shea butter. 1.5 teaspoon of the violet and 1 teaspoon of the blue mixed in olive oil. I soaped at about 105 degrees. The scents were BB's Champagne and NG's Black Currant, with grated curls from an unscented bar. It was...

    Pigments gone wild

This is not purple. I used BB's Ultraviolet Blue and Ultramarine Violet and got this greenish-yellow mess. Forgive the texture. I cut it too soon so I could take a picture. I have only read glowing reviews of how these pigments mix and color so I have no idea why the color didn't take. Any...

    Celine swirl

Yes, she makes pretty lousy videos--doesn't tell you what she's doing and just banters with her friend, the videographer. Still, if you watch closely and then check in on a few other people who have tried it, it's super easy even if you're not as accomplished a swirler as she is. I did four...

    Celine swirl

CaraBou, The scent is possibly my very favorite in the world, Blackberry Sage. The swirl is Radiant Plum mica--both Brambleberry.
