    Name? Scent? What to do?

I see, HappyHome. Those are cool, clear labels and the mix of titles/scent is not jarring. I'm a bit OCD about product consistency so I appreciate your packaging. And that Lumberjack salt soap is so pretty!

    Name? Scent? What to do?

That's a home-run point, boyago. There are plenty of fragrance oils I won't buy because a clever name, while clever, doesn't give me any sense of what they actually smell like. It's easy for something like Sparkle Plenty/Champagne Bath Soap, but when you get into some of my fancier 4-fragrance...

    Name? Scent? What to do?

Not really, IrishLass. My packaging is very old-fashioned and stylized, and as I said, I can blend a lot of scents together so that would eat up room. I'm really struggling with this dumb question. It's because I make too many soaps! I never want to repeat myself so I have 10 or so bas of, like...

    Name? Scent? What to do?

Hiya, soapers. I'm working with a new designer for my labels but the problem is, I have some soaps that have clever names that don't make dazzling clear which scents I used (Penny Farthing, Ballerina, Voodoo), and some that kind of are what they are (Cranberry Crush, Lavender Honey, Rosemary)...

    Soap You Hate

I had to make a ton of lilac soaps for wedding favors and am not a fan of florals. I still have a tiny bit left in my huge bottle and it makes me sick to even look at. I had only one mold so made them one at a time--my kitchen smelled sickly sweet for months. I also used up my (gross...

    Candy Melts> In CP

Chocolate is for eating! I use candy melts to make mints, but it might be fun in soap. Lord knows enough people want to eat my soaps as it is. Oh, p.s. I offered my mover a soap and he said he liked sweet scents, so he accepted a lavender honey. I was riffling through the others and mentioned my...

    Lost my darling furbaby tonight

Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind words and sympathy. Anyone who has lost a pet understands what a hole it rips in your heart. I grieve for the loss of your little family members as well. It hurts as badly over time, but you will think of it less often, and that is a weak sort of...

    creepy crust on top?

It was thin until I let it sit, whereupon it was thick trace and puddingy. Perhaps it over-cooled. By the time I got to pouring the top layer, after all, it had been 20 minutes or so from the last time I SB'ed it. I took pics but they don't show the icing effect. I'll try again. But it was...

    creepy crust on top?

Nope. No brains. Just a crust that didn't swirl nicely like a thick trace should. It was like royal icing that you'd make for cookies.

    creepy crust on top?

It's a lovely 75 or so today outside. My house is about 73, according to the thermostat. I soaped at 103 degrees. Oh, and P.S., I am gelling the soap, so I pulled it out of the gel station to swirl it and thence discovered the crust issue. Heh, I said "thence."

    creepy crust on top?

I couldn't find reference to this phenomenon anywhere in the forums, but I have a "crust" problem. The recipe was 80% lard and 20% coconut oil, superfatted at 8%. I used BB's sample of Crisp Cotton and NG's Ruby Red Grapefruit and made a three-layer silicone loaf with Mad Oil's Disco Pink and...

    Lost my darling furbaby tonight

I'm sorry if this is too off-topic to even be in the off topic section but after four months of not eating, despite all my efforts, the tests, the ultrasounds, the X-ryas, blood tests, fresh raw salmon, my angel Tiki the wondercat has passed. I'm heartbroken tonight. When my little crazy...

Seriously, What Happened to the Scent Works?!

I'm convinced that the reason I love making soap so much is..

When I've poured a puddingy liquid into the mold and a few days later a miraculous solid sheet or loaf of appears as if by magic. It's like the fairies came and put a glamour on my mold, turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. Unmolding that hard slab of soap is magical for me. I took...

How do these behave in CP?

Thank you, HappyHome. Does the basil smell like basil? It's one of my favorite scents in the world and I don't want to waste soap and be let down.

    Making your own dupe?

It's more fun to create your own than find a dupe, if possible. I looked up the list of scent ingredients in my favorite perfume and I'm working on creating a soap that smells like it. It's been a tough road but it's fun and I imagine will be quite satisfying if I can pull this off.

How do these behave in CP?

Sorry for the vague thread title, but I started out with the gateway drug, melt and pour, and had some bad experiences with some of my favorite real-life scents. Ginger scorched so badly in the hot soap I dumped the whole bottle before I figured out it was a temperature issue. The other one I...

What is your best/easiest soapmaking recipe?

My go-to easy-peasy is 30/30/30/10, lard or tallow, olive oil, coconut oil and shea butter. Superfat at 7%. Feel the silky magic. It's easy to mix up a masterbatch in advance for this recipe.
