Woooah there horsey! (How can I slow it down?)

For the record, when I have the energy to have a rant about people giving half the unit name, I want you all to know that I'm displaying irony here. I recognise "degrees" as nothing but an utterly pointless expression. "Degrees Centigrade" would be technically correct, but even "Centigrade" is...

Woooah there horsey! (How can I slow it down?)

PLA's only good for maybe 40 degrees before it softens. I dread to think what NaOH solution does to that kind of organic. Sure, TPU is also "organic" but let's see what happens...!

Woooah there horsey! (How can I slow it down?)

Good question. No; not PLA. I used TPU. I'm just testing it with the fats an Hydroxide now before I start to mix!! Any experience?

Woooah there horsey! (How can I slow it down?)

Mixed messages on temperature. So, I'm thinking, I let my lye cool to room temp, let my oils cool until it looks like they're thinking about thickening, and my main takeaway is to work a lot less with the blenderiser. Thanks!

Woooah there horsey! (How can I slow it down?)

Naturally, I can't find the reference now, but I recalled reading fairly early on that temperature wasn't so terribly important if I worked slowly. As such, I've never monitored it. Yes, I've subsequently learned that there's NOTHING which ISN'T a factor! So, my oils have been at "just melted"...

Thickening, yes. I assumed that was the gel stage starting.

Woooah there horsey! (How can I slow it down?)

Hi. Me again. :-| Couple of batches into my sop making "career" now. I've 3D printed a flexible mould to try and emboss a logo on my bars. One teency problem I predict: each time I've poured my soap into my mound, it's gelled very very quickly. I do not think it will stay liquid long enough to...

Right enough. Bloody cooking terminology as well.

Need 2 pointers, please: translucent and vegan

I'm looking for two beginner recipes, please. I hope they'd be NaOH-based (as that's what I have). Both should be hard soaps and both should be beginners recipes! (Did I already say that?) One is for a transparent or translucent soap. One is for a vegetable oil based soap. All my soap to...

    New Words

Considering the number of words that have been reintroduced to English recently, or have been made more common, or imported from elsewhere. Here in the UK, for example, I believe "furlough" was an uncommon term until the pandemic. As a Software Engineer, I'm quite happy with "algorithms" but now...

    Teenage Niff Combative Soap

I think I'm in that club. My wife can't seem to smell kids' BO at all. Most folk don't seem irritated by it, and I wonder if they're just being polite, because it drives me loopy. On reflection, I think I was one of those who was fascinated by the smells. I still am. I'm pretty sure I can tell...

    FacebookWhatsappInstagram is Dead

but if the world wasn't so damned fast due to computers, you wouldn't need to book-keep on a computer! But in a non-computer world, would anyone really care if their soap smelled of rhubarb and juniper? I do agree, that I would probably struggle to "live off the land" without a decent research...

    FacebookWhatsappInstagram is Dead

Facebook's down and Twitter didn't want me. This is my new favourite place to come and hang. This must be what middle-age feels like.

Not a single bar of soap in sight! Nor an airing cupboard!

    Teenage Niff Combative Soap

Oh, I hear you! I can tell when the shower head has ben left pointing at the window sill that my offspring has only just been in the "vicinity" of the water...!

I'm guessing "DH" is Dear Heart: the American euphemism for "PW". (UK) "Present Wife"? :-)

Those are quite useful looking. they're about a 2.5 hour drive from here. (Don't worry, we sometimes buy veg in them!) Thanks!

Does everyone have an airing cupboard which looks like this within their first week of soapmaking?

Undiluted Essential Oils Can Be Nasty

I just realised that the pattern is the knurled base from the ramakin I was using to dilute the oil! Some must've run down the side. Glad I use glassware...
