    My First CP soap bar

I love the free form soap shape! And agree the color of cloud is perfect for the shape—who says soap has to have perfect corners anyway??

    Learning More the Hard Way

Oooo! Thanks soo much for these tips! Now I’ll know not to panic!! I just made another batch using coconut lemongrass from BB. I make small batches. The buttercup yellow from BB turned orange! But it looked ok. I finally did most everything right, even though I mixed up too much of one color...

    Learning More the Hard Way

Actually, I love the learning and experimenting! Hearing of others’ experiences on the Forum is encouraging, and I’m so pleased to find people like me! Lol.

    Learning More the Hard Way

I will study FO review chart and ask suppliers, paying much more attention to it! Definitely an area that needs expertise. I should have made my moniker “LTHW” (Learning The Hard Way)!

    Lavander soap

Can anyone tell me the difference between lavendin and lavender?

I will follow your advice about adding FO last.

    Learning More the Hard Way

Oh thank you!! I wasn’t sure about coconut milk, it’s not really dairy, but didn’t want to chance it. Yes, I figured I set myself up for acceleration too. Won’t do that again! And am keeping journal. Fortunately, the soap is just fine! I rely on your helpful comments, even when I learn the...

    Learning More the Hard Way

Used the Neem soap. Excellent. Will make again. Cut the coconut milk soa. Just fine. Yay.

    Learning More the Hard Way

Resolved to make some of my wonky Neem soap into confetti bars. I think that will look good and make a happy addition to another kind of soap. Resolution #2 to stick to known FO (I.e. Brambleberry) or thoroughly research FOs before using. I made another soap using a combo of Ocean Rain...

    Colloidal silver

I have a friend who swears by colloidal silver. In soap, since it will wash right off, it might be wasteful. Unless the lye reacts with the silver, though, I can’t imagine using colloidal silver would be a problem. Maybe try a tiny batch and see what happens. I am curious about it myself. Any...

    Learning the hard

Thank you for your encouragement. I wish I had thought of soap making earlier in my life, but, as you say, I would likely have been sweating over a pot of hot pig lard then! Ha! Fat chance! It looks easy on YouTube, and it’s not rocket science, but it is enough science to study first!! I am...

    Learning the hard

My Neem soap is improving. It’s hardening up. So humid and hot here, I’ve been blasting a fan in it, was able to cut it and it’s starting to harden. It sat for 5 days before I cut it. While the recipe showed it would be a hard bar, do you think it would be better to lower the SF to maybe 3? The...

    Learning the hard

Glad to hear a Neem success. I used 10% Neem, but knowing a complimentary FO helps. My soap is sort of a circus-camo color too-not much going for it!

    Learning the hard

I totally agree! I have a simple recipe that I will do just that—the bells& whistles can wait!!

    What sticks to parchment paper?

Rubber band chains sound good! Double stick tape to the back side would probably work. But I’m going to try the heat resistant Mylar. I like the idea that they can be washed and reused. I’ll let you know how that works Yay! But where do you get it?? Does it have a brand name?!

    Learning the hard

I’m 2-2 and more determined than ever! The colors are muddied from dark oils (lesson #1-use colors that work with the color of the oils), the smell may improve (lesson #2-smell is improving since soap has been sitting out. Used too much Neem (lesson #3-review literature for unusual oils). The...

    Learning the hard

I have a learning habit of pushing the envelope too soon! I’ll bet this is worse than anyone on the forum! I let it sit for 2 days, but it’s soft still. I know I measured correctly! I tried not to mix too long so I could try a fancy swirl, but it was still too long. Stuffed it in the mold in...
