    Soapee

Just chiming in to say I really loved Soapee too. I'm a UI designer by trade and really appreciated the design and utility of it. Kudos to the maker if they're seeing any of this--thanks for the great tool while you were able to sustain it!

    Crayolas to color CP/HP soap

I didn't do any wrapping! That would be a good experiment...

    Crayolas to color CP/HP soap

One more note about the faded crayola soap: I believe it is the surface only; when I started using one of them it was closer to the original color "under the skin". So keep that in mind too if you're planning a design! I'm probably going to cut some to see what a cross section looks like after...

    Crayolas to color CP/HP soap

I did an experimental Crayola-colored batch a few years ago. Got GREAT colors--but later, some faded to really different colors. Greens & blues do better, as a tentative hypothesis... Pic 1: 2 days Pic 2: 24 days Pic 3: 39 days Pic 4: 227 days

    Cutting wood grain soap

@dibbles Thanks--I was so blown away by a wood grain soap of yours that I saw...if you cared to reveal which way YOU cut, I'd love it! Also--I'm feeling guilty thinking that people clicking on this link are expecting photos, so despite the mediocrity I'll share my last effort. I poured too...

    Cutting wood grain soap

I'm about to do my second wood grain soap loaf, and scouring videos I've found that some folks seem to cut their wood grain soap one way, and some another. This is using a very similar or identical technique for the pour, doing thin streams poured against the side of the tipped mold. I'm...

    confirming stainless steel

thanks, @DeeAnna. Maybe I need to abandon these mystery bowls...if anyone has a solid brand recommendation I'd take it! I'm looking for a nice big bowl for battery, with a pouring spout.

    confirming stainless steel

Thanks @earlene , but they don't say anything where I ordered (Amazon) besides "high quality stainless steel", and don't have any identifying markings. I'm hoping there's a way to put my mind at ease, even if it means sacrificing a small batch of soap, potentially.

    confirming stainless steel

I ordered some pots online to use for soaping, advertised as stainless steel. They aren't magnetic, which I realize doesn't rule out them being SS, but doesn't confirm it either (as being magnetic would have). Is there a way I can easily check this, short of soaping with them and seeing what...

    slow-moving, vegan, and palm-free?

Thank you everyone for all the ideas and detailed thoughts! Lots of avenues to pursue here. Several of you have reminded me that the very first soap I made, WAY back in the early 90s (followed by a few decades hiatus from soapmaking), was 100% olive oil and took FOREVER to trace. I don't love...

    slow-moving, vegan, and palm-free?

This is all super interesting--so hard oils would typically make things move faster, I gather, but low water slows it down...I'm going to have to dig in and do some reading and research. Which I'm also game for if no magic bullet recipe materializes...thanks folks!

    slow-moving, vegan, and palm-free?

From Grace to You gave me a starting point...thanks @AliOop! and thanks @KiwiMoose --fragrance search begins!

    slow-moving, vegan, and palm-free?

Sounds like a personal ad, but I'm looking for a soap recipe....does anyone have one they don't mind sharing? I usually prioritize other qualities I can balance and experiment with using soap calculators, but I'm not sure where to start for getting into swirls. Apologies if this has been...

    Stuck on a name

I just invented a cocktail with pine and ginger notes and named it Sleigh Ride...perhaps it works for the soap...

    How old is too old?

Chiming in on the consensus. I have some bars I made 24-25 years ago and they are lovely. 100% wild boar fat! ex-BF/soaping partner at the time was a hunter.

A wish for consistency of UNITS! Is it only me?

@Vicki C OMG I'm excited for your spreadsheet! Thanks so much! I just opened it and realized I need to dig in on this when i'm NOT halfway through a cocktail...but this is right up my alley. You are so generous to share it!

A wish for consistency of UNITS! Is it only me?

You know, you all are making me realize I should switch out how I'm working out my recipes and colors. I want to be able to play with color amounts and adjust as I go! I think the answer is I should split out my oils BEFORE adding lye OR color, then add colorants as desired to the oils. And...

A wish for consistency of UNITS! Is it only me?

I think it's getting complicated for me because I'm premixing colorants, in some cases with oils and others with water, and adding them into my batches that way. So I need to figure out how much pre-batched colorant to use, and subtract out the oils or water I'm hence adding back in...usually to...

A wish for consistency of UNITS! Is it only me?

I love the soapmaking community so much, and so appreciate everyone's generosity with their knowledge. So I hope no one is offended by this question--it's pretty likely you'll all just educate me (again) as to why this is actually a good way to do it! But right now as I work out calculations...

    Sausage fat? :-o

When I got into making soap recently I just loved the idea of using what otherwise went to waste, and made a number of batches from my own and my friend's leftover bacon fat. 100% "recycled" lard made lovely soap--but despite many cycles and versions of washing and purifying the fat, I was not...
