Another reason every batch needs to be tested before sale...

Well I've been selling soap bars for 10 years, and I still get surprises once in awhile.....I blame it on the Fo's. Some of them seem to keep a bar soft forever!....so even if a batch were tested for 6 weeks, it could still be "off" later. Grumble, grumble. Last year I made a baby powder fo...

    GM Soap Success!

Sounds great, and you seem to be enjoying the entire process. Have fun with colors! it adds another whole dimension to it all (and a lot more work, er I mean 'fun'). Keep it up!

    Oatmeal and honey soap

I add honey to the lye water when it is hot....this way it dissolves very well, but it does turn bright orange and smell funny. But in the end, the soap seems to have a nice golden color and smells like honey. I love my honey soaps. But you have to take care not to overheat the soap when it's...

If you make goat's milk - HELP!!!

I'm pretty sure that the orange dots are due to caramelization of the milk, and/or an FO discoloring. I like the idea to add calendula petals and disguise the dots....the soap will be great with the spots, but customers may wonder, so the addition of flower petals will explain.

Green Tea in Goat Milk soap??

So.....did you ever make the green tea soap? I'd love a pic.

    High,Mid, low notes.

I pretty much experiment. I do like patchouli, cedarwood and vanilla as base eo's, but I also find that using cocoa butter as a main oil helps give the scent a 'ground' of sorts. Just this morning I mixed up: bergamot, pettigrain (my new fav), sweet orange, and a titch of black pepper, then...

    Advice from soapers....

Sorry, no help here...I only sell soap bars. Hope someone who makes those products comes in soon to tell you.

Pine eo vs. Balsam Fir Needle Oil

I have both eo's, like the fir, not the pine sol. But mixing them together, and adding a bit of orange, or eucalyptus, or peppermint disguises the "pine sol". I especially like fir + orange eo.

How do you get this look?

Very pretty soaps here! The one you're asking about looks like she didn't bring it to gel, that's for sure. A thick trace is my guess.

    Migraine after blending eo's

It's true, we all react differently to scent. I get migraines from lots of different ones, have had to learn, just from opening the bottle. Lavender makes me sneeze and cough now (after 9 years of using it); mints sometimes give me a headache, many FO's do. Good luck in finding which ones you...

    "neat" soap

My first thought when I saw the words 'neat soap' would be soap without fragrance, so you can really smell what the soap smells like by itself. I couldn't get that link to open.

Green Tea in Goat Milk soap??

I often add a tea bag (tried various ones) to my lye water. You can see approximately what color you'll get from there. I like adding chai tea to unscented soap, cuz it takes away the strong oily smell. I'm sure you can do this (add tea to lye water) and add your milk to the soap mixture at...

    Purple!Purple!camellia oil SOAP

    Suggestions please

My customers love peppermint, spearmint, eucalyptus. Some like a titch of lavender in there, even in winter. But I enjoy making spicy ones at Xmas, as if I were baking Christmas cakes: cinnamon, clove, ginger mixes.

    Stronger smelling FO's

I like the peppermint I got from New Directions, and their service is very good. Other FO's from them are strong too. Perhaps you need to try out different suppliers in your area. Good luck!

    Titanium Dioxide?

This is so sad, as I suppose it's in almost everything we buy commercially, such as paint, possibly toothpaste? ....but is it only the dust inhalation which causes cancer? I suppose if it causes lung cancer, it can cause other cancers too, if ingested into the system - perhaps even through the...

    Zinc Oxide to whiten soap?

When testing for color, it's preferable to make a non-scented soap, cuz many of the scents do impart color. This soap testing is a never-ending barrel of fun! Hope you enjoy the process.

    Coons in the bird feeder

Captioning this one: "Maybe if I say a prayer, she'll save some for me". These are two child-coons that still visit with their momma.

Why put sugar in the lye water am I missing a step?

I find that adding sugar to soap increases the big bubbles in the lather. Castor oil makes more of the creamy, small bubbles, and a rich smooth lather. Both are good!
