    Next Experiment

Well, for anyone interested, there is a reason why 50/50. I don't use palm oil. I don't use animal fats. That leaves me with olive and coconut. (I tried plain castile and it was too slimey for me, even after 6 months. So I was told that 20% CO would eliminate slime. That's why I tried 25%.) And...

    Next Experiment

I'm still on the quest for the perfect base for all my facial/body soap bars (they are all unscented or rebatched with EOs in the meantime to save on $/until the base is perfected). Thinking of doing a 50/50 OO/CO batch, but I recognize it will be quite stripping with that much CO and will need...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

FlybyStardancer: You read my mind! So many doubts and concerns creeping in over this, seems like either a shady or money-grubbing move to me! I'm so irritated by them keeping the same price for non-organic. At least in Portland, OR they appear to have an abundant supply - but for how long, who...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

99% of companies lie about their olive oil (or at least, the suppliers they trust to get it from do). Check out that Truth In Olive Oil link I posted on page 1 if you're interested in more. Or, alternatively, you can read about how Pompeian was tested for fraud and failed along with heaps of...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

Good to know, no Sam's in my area and probably cut with other oils at that price - Kirkland is the only one I know of from researching nationwide that has been tested and found pure (that isn't absolutely insanely priced, that is), but I also only buy the certified USDA organic... If that goes...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

Well, my wallet's not too happy after the latest trip to Costco, but at least my pantry is. I stocked up (8 jugs, each jug is 2 liters) as best I could, though it was a mite painful at $14.99 a jug. I have no idea how much shipping is from Soaper's Choice or whereabouts they are located... Do...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

I am extremely skeptical of who paid for those studies cited in that opinion piece. You follow the money, and while organic may use alternative pest control treatments (things like Saver's Soap, Neem oil, crop covers, plus mixes of seaweed extracts and others with those ingredients) it takes a...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

It is for me. Organic means that the olives were grown with no pesticides. Saponification cannot necessarily effect pesticide residue and other chemicals used, though I suppose that depends on what they are and dissecting every compound involved. But in the end, I don't want anything like that...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

Yes; my sentiments exactly re: completely disheartening! I don't use palm either, mostly olive with some coconut and butters, so since organic EVOO makes up the bulk of my soaps I am very frustrated with Costco! Even with the price increase theirs was still the cheapest and the only one in my...

    Organic EVOO Disappears from Costco!!

Can anyone else let me know if this has happened at your Costcos? I only soap with certified USDA organic oils so was pretty upset. My DH went to pick some up after work for us and the employee that works in that department attempted to convince him it was the exact same product without the...

    Best facial bar ever

Sweet, always a treat to meet another person with the same values! Where in the world did you find broccoli seed oil? That sounds very interesting!

No idea what to call these - rose things

Regardless, these are still the epitome of luxury IMO. Love them!! How much 3% dilution did you use to fragrance? I can't afford the straight absolutes either, that price is breathtaking. I'd like to try this... Though your soaps are far more beautiful than mine will probably ever be!

    Best facial bar ever

Thanks, I'll check them out! I just plain am not interested in soy though, 85% is GMO and even certified organic is deeply at risk for cross-contamination. Most certified organic corn (another huge GMO crop), for example, when tested is found to have cross-contaminated GMO corn in it. It's very...

    Leftover Batch Scraps - Upcycle!

Is it safe to put a cheap quality SS pot in the oven? I'm intrigued. I might try this... I have both charcoal (activated) and a food processor to grind oats (I buy most of our food in bulk to save). Wouldn't the charcoal stain skin from soap? I ended up with a tattoo to this day from childhood...

    Leftover Batch Scraps - Upcycle!

Well, as fun as confetti soap and embeds sound it's not really what I'm looking to do right now due to cost of supplies for other colors, and another reason: this batch I have scraps from is a test batch (albeit a large one - I don't have any little SS pots - 12 qt. and 8 qt.) and I am trying to...

    Leftover Batch Scraps - Upcycle!

Other than using the crockpot (not doing that, uncomfortable with them degrading and stuff in the crocks - just using a SS pot on very low temp) that all sounds good - but when making CP soap from scratch, don't people normally add EOs at trace, and not test for flash point? I've never heard of...

    Goat Milk Soap Skin Benefits?

When I have used GM, I use raw GM and have made raw GM kefir too. I wonder if anyone has made kefir soap? It would be similar to a yogurt soap but thinner if anyone has done that. Being in WA it is legal to sell raw milk in grocery stores here (from licensed dairies that is). Perks of being a...

    Leftover Batch Scraps - Upcycle!

That DOES look really cool; however, none of my soaps have dyes or bits in them so it would look substantially less cool in my batches/with what I have on hand, I'm afraid. My soaps are all very basic and unscented, hence why I thought I could cheaply melt down my scraps and add a little EO...

Castile for the New Year anyone?

The reason I did 25% CO was at the suggestion of a member here, saying as long as there was 20% CO, that would keep the sliminess/gooiness of pure OO soap at bay.

    Leftover Batch Scraps - Upcycle!

I make regular sugar scrub without soap in it that I'm pretty happy with though. :) The rest of that I have no idea... Haha. I have never rebatched, or anything, so how do you rebatch? Is there a ratio of EO per lb. of scraps (when I weigh them) you suggest, since you mentioned a tiny amount...
