    Salt soap

So do those of you who love salt bars use them only on your face? I was referring to not liking using them in the shower, all over....but maybe I'll try it just on my face, might like it better.....will do an experiment for a week or so, see if it makes a difference to my opinion. Always willing...

    Salt soap

My experience with salt bars: - they are indeed very hard, like a rock.....feels like rubbing your skin with a rock. - little or no lather I don't really know what the appeal is, except maybe psychological, because some spas recommend or sell salt bars.

    strange swirls

I forgot to mention, we are having some tornado warnings on the radio lately....I hope these soaps aren't trying to tell me something.....

    strange swirls

So on Monday I made two batches of CP soap, and swirled them casually (I don't fuss, just mix quickly and hope for a nice surprise....) The blue is a mixture of Yuzu, peppermint, euc, lime eo's.....I find straight Yuzu too sweet, so mix in a few essential oils. I call it Misty Sea, and it...

    Fall Trees

I just love these! never did M&P soap, not even sure I could.....it takes a real artistic touch, but sure like the look of it....did you make small leaves of soap, and then embed them in clear soap? So clever...

Have you ever baked an edible with cocoa butter?

I've been looking for dessert recipes with cocoa butter, with little success. Found one or two I might try this week. Will post if I make it. Cocoa Butter cupcakes: 2.5 ounces CB 3 large eggs 1 TBSP nut butter 6tsp honey 2 tsps vanilla extract 3/4 tsp baking soda 2 tsp lemon juice...

palm kernel oil versus palm oil

I sub palm for lard, they behave almost the same in bar soap, but pko is similar to coconut, harder, lots of fluffy lather, but much less moisturizing (or non-drying) than palm. A good recipe (to me) is 50% olive (or your choice of liquid oil); 21% palm or lard, 26% coconut or pko, (some...

    Coconut Soap

Looks good, and ought to be a really hard soap with great fluffy lather, not so great stable lather.....? do you have oily skin? it may be a tad drying to skin, good for very oily-skin types, or as a household cleanser... I enjoy making my own household cleaning products too.

    Scientific question

I have a dumb question: just curious: why are you adding so much salt to your lye water? I usually add only a tsp (6gms) to 24 ounces of water, hoping it might harden the soap a bit more. I stir like crazy when the lye/water is really hot, and it does dissolve.

What is the best vanilla color stabilizer for CP?

What great ideas for naming brown vanilla soap! Great suggestions, gals. I dislike adding whitener to my soaps, as I try to keep the number of extra ingredients to a minimum if at all.....but a good name will sell even the ugliest of colors! I remember one time using alkanet for purple and it...

has anyone used canolive oil? -new pic added

ebbydawn: Don't ALL oils have preservatives in them? (unless they confirm that they are organic). I'll check for specifics and get back to you. Do you question all your oil suppliers as to what they have to preserve them for a long shelf life in the warehouse or stores?

has anyone used canolive oil? -new pic added

Oh my, I haven't been back here in quite awhile, and didn't see this question. Sorry! I round my bars with either a potato peeler (all edges, then corners last) or the 'soap trimmer' gadget thingy I bought from one of my suppliers.....gee, can't remember who. Here's a pic of it:

has anyone used canolive oil? -new pic added

Well, June 29th now, and the soap still shows no signs of DOS. Good thing, cuz I have 21 small bars left. was saving to give them as gifts. Will do that soon...need to wrap 'em. and this much Canolive oil to use up! I'm going to be very busy making soap for the next while! So many...

1kg of lye = how much kg of soap?

I make 98 ounce batches of soap. (2.8 kgs). For this I use .4 kgs of lye. So: if .4kgs makes 2.8 kgs of soap, do the math and you should have your answer.

    Craft show today!

Well, no, it didn't get better. I did make my cost-of-show though, and a bit to spare, but I won't do this tour again. Time to move on, find a better venue. I may not do artist-tours again. I did have fun though, enjoyed my time with the artists. The only people who did well on this tour...

has anyone used canolive oil? -new pic added

I am LOVING these bars! Hard, smooth feeling on hands afterwards, best of all - cheaper than my olive/coc/pk/shea/cocoa butter/castor bars. Will do more experiments with this oil, very soon. I want to try a castille bar with my usual 100% pomace olive oil, and also a batch with 100%...
