    Yin Yang Soap

Those came out so well! Nicely done!

    Modified Mantra...or something

    That's very pretty!

    Switch to cp

I've always considered hot process to be much harder than cold process so I think you'll take to it really easily. Probably the only thing more problematic is fragrance... be prepared to use more. I like a strongly scented bar, so I normally go with .75oz ppo - 1oz ppo (unless it is a really...

    Lilac drop swirl

That is gorgeous! The thin purple swirls on each side - just hypnotic.

    Drying Cold Process Soap!

It's all subjective, but that 2% superfat would be too low for me - especially in the winter. I run between 5%-7%. Also - that's a lot more caster than I've ever used - wondering if that could be it?? I use a standard 5% and normally don't see folks posting recipes above 10%. The other oils seem...

What am I gonna do with all this jojoba?

I like to use it as a post-cook superfat in my shaving soap. It's also really nice as a cuticle oil... just as it is. It is lovely added into a cuticle balm. Also, if you have really dry hair... try it neat on the ends.

    FOs...What am I missing?

If you do want Irish Spring, Sweetcakes has a dead-on dupe. DayStar has a nice ocean/pond one called Ahoy Matey. It's hard to find spa scents that aren't migraine inducing - so many are overly herbal or too floral. I'll have to try Kentish Rain based on everyone's suggestions!

    Aloe, aloe!

Hrmn, the weight of 100gm of water is the same whether it is frozen or liquid, right? It's just the volume that increases... or maybe I'm confused. I'm probably confused. :)

    Worst fragrance

Without a doubt and no contest - Coconut from Mile High Soaps. Pure evil in a bottle. It reeked a foul stench as soon as it hit my soap batter and never got better during cure. I tried to use it up in bath bombs - even those acted goofy and smelled like chemicals. If you ever drive through Deer...

So Mad at Myself!!!! Lots & Lots of Lather.....Wild Goose Chase!

Sorry, I not sure about that one... but I thought I'd pass along my way to save recipes... Evernote. It's free and saves to the cloud (so I can access it from my phone & my pc). Chrome has an extension so that I can save directly from SoapCalc and then edit the recipe, add comments, and save...

    Aloe, aloe!

When using frozen liquids, I weigh before freezing and then weigh again... I must have fairies or unseen spillage since they should weigh the same amount - but they never do. :)

    Aloe, aloe!

I sometimes use aloe. I normally use powdered aloe to make aloe juice from some of my reserved water from my lye solution. I make sure to always have at least a little more water than lye so that it will fully dissolve. My regular recipe calls for about 300gm of water...I reserve 100gm to make...

    Your thoughts on Tussah Silk?

The smell is a little hard to describe... it's softly protein-y... maybe like wool mittens?

    My first “Rain” soap

I am loving the look of that soap! Thanks for sharing! <<Heads off to Macguyer some pipette injectors...

    Bits of stuff in soap

I'm with y'all on the "please no stuff on the soap" bandwagon. My sister-in-law wanted lavender buds on her soap... within a week it looked like a hamster outhouse. Eww. About the only botanical I will use are calendula petals within the soap since they stay yellow. I shred them up to more of...

    Your thoughts on Tussah Silk?

I use tussah silk in pretty much all of my recipes. I only skip it if I'm making vegan soap or one that needs frozen liquids (e.g. beer, pumpkin). I *think* it adds some silkiness, but that could be just my imagination. It does sound nice on my labels. I have a bunch of it... so why not? One...

    formulation help needed

Hi, you have to take the soap qualities listed with a grain of salt. No cleansing really should be listed as "no stripping". Even 100% olive oil soap will cleanse. It just has a lot of oleic acid in it which makes a very gentle (not stripping) soap. Those are called castille soap and...

    First Soap Advice

I'll jump in with my opinion. A lot of folks don't like heavy olive oil recipes since they can feel slimy (all that Oleic acid). When I go above 30% with olive oil, I tack on an additional month of cure time for each 10% increase (roughly) to help keep the stringy/sliminess at bay. The only...

    Adding Lye to Hard Oils

The only one I can think of (and the reason I haven't tried it)... if you run out of heat before everything is melted.
