    My soap burns

Yes I must admit I was very surprised that in other countries you are allowed to sell soap without a safety certificate (I am sure you would also be surprised about some of the practices over here compared to yours) I get what you mean now when you say irritate rather than burn! Any soap can do...

    My soap burns

Is it more than one customer who is describing this? If so, I don't mean to be rude but you are selling soap that burns!! I live in the uk and to sell soap here you have to have a safety assessment (I believe it is the same for all of the EU). This costs a lot of money so means that soap making...

    Beveled, Buffed, Stamped and Wrapped

I like the simple design, I think it looks great. What I would do is make it more uniform so all your labels match, at the moment the Lizard (?) is in a different area of the label on each soap, can you make it so it lines up in the same place to have a more uniform look. Likewise with the soap...

    recommend a starter kit

First ingredient is water, then Petrolatum :( never mind I wasn't hoping for much. Will still be interesting to see how it turns out. yes homemade soap is better for eczema, my son doesn't use any soap at the moment so hoping he will be able to try some of mine. This week I will be making...

    recommend a starter kit

My first soap :) there should be more but like I said I lost alot transferring the mix between containers. I cut one up as I wanted to see how it cut. I scented it with some old vanilla FO I remembered I had left from my candle making days. I made another batch today scented with lemongrass...

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

Hi all I am looking to make a shampoo bar that I can actually use (this is one of my main reasons for starting soap making). I live in a very hard water area which makes using shampoo bars difficult, it is nothing to do with the rinse, its the reaction with the hard water which makes the soap...

    recommend a starter kit

Most of the plastic jugs/bowls sold here are polypropylene no 2, but I will look next time I am at the shops, might get a few funny looks inspecting the bottoms to see what material it is made of lol. The other thing I thought of is a stainless steel stock pot which will have tall sides, I...

    recommend a starter kit

I think the issue was I only made a small batch (500g/1lb) and my saucepans were too wide meaning the blending head was not completely submerged into the oils hence the splattering. I need to source something that is tall and narrow, I have seen lots of blogs using jugs but these are glass which...

    recommend a starter kit

Well I made soap (I hope we will see when I un-mould it!) My thermometer didn't arrive but I couldn't wait so just guessed the temp of the lye/oils!!! I am hoping this will not cause too much of an issue they were both in stainless steel containers and felt about the same temp when I felt the...

    newbie question - checking recipes

Does this method of weighing make much of a difference? I was planning on weighing all my solid oils whilst solid then melt? I can melt and then weigh but this would mean the remainder of the oil in the tub being changed from solid to liquid alot, does this not effect it? The only other...

    newbie question - checking recipes

I found a recipe in a book which I like the sound of. Everything I have read tells me to always run a recipe through a lye calculator to check it. I can't get the amount of lye the recipe states to match in the calculator, I tried changing the SF as the recipe does not tell me what they used...

    just wondering as new here

 from the UK And puts a vote in to keep everything on the same forum, I like speaking to people all over, if you put in a sub forum for the UK, UK citizens might think they are only allowed to post in that bit, besides then you would need to do the same for the rest of Europe/elsewhere...

    just wondering as new here

Today I looked round my nearest Asian shop. They sold coconut oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil, and plam oil. Also the vegetable oil they had was soyabean oil (for those not in the UK the vegetable oil sold in the supermarkets here is rapeseed oil).

    Crisco

I have been playing with the soapcalc calculator and as Efficacious says if you change to grams it works it out in grams, rather than pounds (500g to 1.1 pounds) this means that the gram quantities tend to come out as whole numbers :) Trex is palm oil and rapseed oil, shame its not 100% palm...

GoodWill Finds -- show me yours!

Thanks for the tip, you are right at some point I will need a slow cooker so best to get a cheap one when I see one. Small round ones are quite common over here (shops sell round as well as oval new). Loving the help from this forum, I would never have considered the advantages of round over oval.
