Hi Melinda48, when you say 'strings' is that actually 'wires'? I always use 8g hi-tensile wire on my cutters, and while they may have a weak point at the loop end, I've never seen them break anywhere else. Can you tell me please, if possible, what gauge of wire is used on your cutter? Thanks...

I use 8g ( that's probably 'AWG' and it is 0.02" or 0.508mm) on my cutters. It's high-tensile music wire (spring tempered wire) and this size seems to be a good compromise between strength (doesn't keep breaking) and smooth cutting. Smaller diameter would probably give a smoother looking cut...

Thank you for your replies people. I thought it was something new but now it looks like it's been around for years. My soap cutters could cut very thin slices, but they would probably dry out in a matter of days and just crumble to pieces if you tried to use them. The idea is intriguing though!
