Playing with colours that shouldn't be put in soap

Manganese Violet was horrendous for me, it stank out the whole room and smelled like rotten eggs. It also went a disgusting shade of brown.

    These soaps....

They are beautiful aren't they! I wonder if she does make them from scratch to get them so beautifully clear?

    Powdered water soluble colourants

I have just had some powdered colourants arrive. People say that they should be 'bloomed' in water first to avoid speckled bombs and bubble bars. I was wondering if anyone had a tried and tested technique to share please?

Still amazed at the difference gel stage makes

    Ugliest Soaps

I like them, they look kind of rustic! I made corned beef looking salt bars once, complete with yellow fragrance oil discolouration that looked like the fat on the outside! Yours are much nicer than that lol

    Some of my latest soaps

I've been a bit quiet lately as life has been a bit tough recently, but I feel like things might be improving a little bit now and I have been making some soap again. Here are my latest bars - Rose velvet and precious oud scented Cranberry and pomegranate scented

February 2017 SMF Soap Challenge- Ebru Soaps

Howie, you mentioned that you struggle to get the design done before your soap sets up. Have you tried really low water? Lots of us have found that with 40% lye concentration and a fragrance that doesn't accelerate, then you have a much longer time to work before the soap sets.

February 2017 SMF Soap Challenge- Ebru Soaps

I find the hardest part is that the whole batter moves when you draw a tool through it rather than just the one area you want to work on so it's hard not to ruin things.

    Saponista GCSW Challenge Winner

Thank you for the lovely compliments everyone. The plastic box was base lined with baking parchment as you can't buy freezer paper in the uk, then you just run a knife along the edge, flip it over and tap the bottom and the soap releases. I always use low water so it hardens up really quickly...

    uk/danish

Hi Anna, I'm from the uk too. Try and ding some clay or cornstarch to the essential oils before mixing into your soap. It helps to bind the fragrance.

another 100% CO laundry soap question

I soap at room temperature too - the first time I did it I wasn't expecting it to heat up so fast. I walked way for five mins and it had exploded out of the mould in a big volcano!

Aldi - food scale and small silicone spatulas

All my spatulas are from Lidl which is pretty much a carbon copy of aldi. I love those places, they always have bargain bins with completely random stuff in at great prices. I bought a singer overlocker and thread for half price!
