    Castor Question

Oh, forehead smack!! I never thought of copy/paste for the url, lol!! Too early in the morning (just before 7am), and no coffee yet! As for the old posts, sometimes I scroll down, thinking they are all new.. the bottom of my screen shows this::

My first shaving soap is a success!

I'll look there first, thank you! And yeah, I avoid Wmart like the plague, but sometimes it's my only choice...

What soapy thing have you done today?

True, lol!! I was trying to find a nice wooden bowl to put it in, but time got away from me... why do I always get the best ideas when it's too late??

My first shaving soap is a success!

Thank you!! I'm in 108 Mile Ranch, and have to drive to Williams Lake, where they still don't have a London Drugs, lol!! So, it'll be Shoppers Drug, or Walmart for me... fingers crossed that I can find something decent!

    Soap Displays

I have a friend who bought an old trailer, that looks like it's from the show, the Beverly Hilbillies - she uses it at shows, and it's so adorable! Michael's has photo holders (Ithink that's what they are), and you could probably order cards from Moo that look like that

    Castor Question

Now I understand why you mentioned that to me the other day.. It's funny, though, bc I never think to look at the date when posts are listed on a page- I just assumed that they are all newish.. newbie question-how do you link to a thread?

    Soaping Shed

That is so funny! My husband and I were a bit opposite.. when we found our dream home, I immediately claimed the 14 x 20 shed, telling my husband, "no honey, that's not the She shed, that's going to be my Bee shed!" And now, it's filled with stuff we need to move, and I'm working towards moving...

    Neutralize or not?

I only use distilled water, and my soap is crystal clear before adding EOs.. then, after a few weeks, a white blob forms on the bottom of my container.. and not always, so I'm guessing EO related. Thanks for your insights!

    Water, water, everywhere

One day I want a proper water distillation system... so that I can quit buying plastic jugs! So far, I've used distilled water for everything.. and since I live in hard water land, i guess I'll keep doing that, until i get to buy a big machine.. Thanks for the input, all!

My first shaving soap is a success!

Thank you for catching that, @Relle - I edited the cocoa butter to 5% (reading alphabetically, I put in castor oil value 2x)

What soapy thing have you done today?

I finally jumped in, and made some shave soap - posted all details in Songwind's thread. It smells amazing, and I think that I love it! But.. the pucks are a little wonky, as they were hand molded after scraping them out of glass ramekins (at the advice of my hubby)..

My first shaving soap is a success!

Okay... I read, read some more, and re-read these and other posts, and mashed all my info together to create what I think I will love.. Here is my recipe:: Avocado oil 5% Babassu oil 5% Castor oil 10% Cocoa butter 5% Coconut oil 76 deg 20% Shea butter 15% Stearic acid 40% 40% sodium hydroxide...

    Cocoa Butter

    @KiwiMoose Like maybe this??
  17. Loralei

    Cocoa Butter

@KiwiMoose , what if you trimmed your CB, increased your Babassu? If you're worried about being too brittle, could you sub in some avocado oil? Noting that I just woke up, and haven't run this suggestion through a calculator yet - it's straight from my pre coffee morning brain, lol!

    Water, water, everywhere

In going through some books, blogs, and the SMF, I'm seeing multiple types of water choices.. Recently, in a lotion making blog, I saw that reverse osmosis water is an option. I've been purchasing gallons of distilled water, and I also have a reverse osmosis filtration system.. have I been...

    Neutralize or not?

@DeeAnna I am quoting part of your last post "Do you see any white fatty layer on the diluted soap that indicates the soap is too fat heavy even if you've made the soap correctly? In other words is the excess superfat something you think you can trace back to the recipe calculations?" I've made...
