SMF September 2020 Challenge - Marble Stone Inspired Soap

@AliOop I was part of that discussion and it was exhausting. I've found the rules in that challenge club to be... odd. (I'm usually asking a bunch of questions b/c I find them to be unclear as written but nitpicky in assessment). I'm so glad we don't have to worry about that here. This will be...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Yessssss! I realized that right after I posted. It won't win, but I can try! XD

What soapy thing have you done today?

Catching up on soap threads today! 🤣 😳 I never thought of that. I have a veggie slicer/chopper attachment that I, sadly, never use (it's faster to just use a knife than to set it up and clean the attachment).... but for shredding soap... hmmm! Thanks for that idea. I recently discovered the...

    Perfume- anything I should know?

You could certainly do an "eau de parfum" spray with just alcohol. I think right now you're going to have a harder time finding spray bottles/tops. heh. With Covid, there's been a shortage and supply problems with spray tops and bottles.

    Fragrance question

Re: color. I haven't noticed a difference with micas and pigments. Liquid colors may behave differently due to the additional ingredients(such as propylene glycol) in some melt and pour bases.

    Fragrance question

A few things can effect the fragrance retention, and the environment of cold process batter is quite different from melt and pour. By the END of saponification and curing the result is the same but consider: 1. Temp. Melt and pour is melted and worked with around 120-130F. Cold process soap can...

    Perfume- anything I should know?

Are you looking to a perfume oil, or a more traditional spray?Perfume oil is easy. You don't really need a special base, a neutral oil carrier, like fractionated coconut oil will work well. Mix the two and pour into a glass vial with a roll top. For a spray, you can add it to alcohol...

    Help me identify these spots!

I'm surprised to not get more replies. I wish I knew what was up with that texture on bar #2

    Help me identify these spots!

Ok at first I thought you meant those big containers that are basically double boilers, but this is...submersible? The oil doesn't mess it up? Tell me more... Edit: or do you mean, use this in a bigger pot/bucket of water to put the bucket of palm into?

    Help me identify these spots!

OOoh. Yeah it's a weird pattern. I was reading that "ash" isn't always soda ash and could be several things. But how to prevent it??

    Mica question (s)

This is what I've done for some batches, and I liked that approach, but I didn't use for batches that required a really fluid batter. I guess if you just do the SB for a quick second or two it shouldn't thicken up too much? Good to hear. I think I'm going to use this approach and/or just add...

    Help me identify these spots!

I did. Bar 1 has TD, activated charcoal, and glow in the dark pigment. I wondered if it wasn't TD that didn't dissolve, but it's in the black part Which bar? I did unmold bar #2 a little early and the tops had ash, but the white spots in the purple area are incorporated, not on top :(

    Mica question (s)

yes! I find the volume measurement of colorant so frustrating (esp when everything else is in weight) that i took time to weigh .5 and 1 tsn and 1tblpn of various micas to see what the average weight was. I still use a teaspoon to get the mica out, but at least it makes keeping my supply...

    Mica question (s)

I've done #2 before but find it messy. I think I think like method 1 better but the method used probably will differ depending on if there are layers/etc I think I may also just use less oil to disburse. I don't see why you can't do a 1:1. Mostly, i'm frustrated because mica/oil use seems to...

    Mica question (s)

I share your frustrations (once again, XD) @Catscankim and I've found that in my last few batches if I mixed up the max amount and kept adding until I got the color I wanted, it helped. Looking at the color of micas disbursed in oil helps, but that will be muted when added to the batter. I did...

    Help me identify these spots!

Hoping you guys can help me troubleshoot. Maybe i nit-pick and put my soap under a microscope too much but I am a perfectionist, and I need to know WHY. XD It's how I get better. So I have these two bars of soap which otherwise turned out ok, but one has white areas that I suspect are...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I LOOOOOVE my high shea butter formula. What butters did you use? @goat soap rulz! and @tommysgirl ya'll are making me ALMOST want to try soap piping. Almost. I HATE frosting piping. I hated it when I did gourmet cupcakes/cakes, and I hate it now. XD I used to use ganache in a lot of my...

    Beveling soap

Thanks. Not to derail the thread, but it's been... a heavy few months. (I'd say weeks but we had an issue with one of our cats right before this one got sick/showed symptoms. Luckily sick cat #1 healed up and is just fine.) Apparently when I get overwhelmed and stressed and depressed I don't...

    Beveling soap

Yay! I was helpful! :D Funny, I mentioned the beveler IrishLass uses to my husband too, kind of off-handedly, and mentioned that it was on sale for like $50 and he was like "that's a good price." "So I should get it?" "Yeah" Kinda surprised because we're probably about to drop a lot of $$$ on a...

    Beveling soap

I know this is like two months later but this was the first post that came up when I searched "beveling", which I searched for because my beveling skills are AWWWFFULLLL. I don't want to bevel all of my soaps, I like the clear sharp edges on some, but others, especially when I cut a little too...
