    Soap not lasting :(

How "much" would depend more on the solvent and how much of the solute it can hold. I think this, as DeeAnna said, is how fast the particular soap dissolves in water (hence the quicker lather for coconut oil vs. olive oil). Again, as DeeAnna said, those give you a softer soap early on...

    Soap not lasting :(

According to Scientific Soapmaking, sodium oleate (predominant soap of olive oil) is less soluble in water than sodium laurate (predominant soap of coconut oil). Therefore, in theory, an olive oil based soap should last longer than a coconut oil based soap. In fact sodium laurate appears to be...

    Cure time

Mostly because you usually have other soaps in the hopper so there is always a batch "ready to try/use" :).

    Cure time rule

Ah I thought you were trying to have this equation be usable across all formulations of soap, not just your personal ones. If you are using the same water across all your recipes, then yes, you can leave it out.

    Cure time rule

I'd agree that one needs a water content variable in that equation.

    Max amount of sugar?

Sounds good to me. Figured I would check, to keep marital harmony. :)

    Max amount of sugar?

Anyone noticed any negative issues with adding sugar (during cure and use)? My wife told me not to in order to avoid, um... female issues down below. Not sure what her concern is based on, but since I'm not a woman, I figured I would check before I put it into the soap.

Want a new scale, this is the best I found so far, what do you think?

Already use the oils one you recommended, just ordered the EO one. Great recommendations!

    My new SaltSoaps.com website

Yeah that is a really good idea.

Do customers prefer products that remain available or having new products regularly?

Here is my view purely from a consumer side. When I find a product I like, I get really annoyed if it goes away. This can be true of a menu item at a restaurant or a product at a store. The one store that does this more than I'd like is CostCo. The number of times I've had a product that I...

    Bar sizes

May not want to fill it up so much in the future ;).

    Milk differences

I figured this, along with the added sugars from the milk, were the main beneficiaries to the soap. Do most people do recipe adjustment due to the fat addition from the milk, or do you just assume that it basically adds extra to the superfat % and move on?

    Milk differences

So why is the "in" thing (well it seems like it is) goat's milk?

My first shaving soap is a success!

Once molded and cut, does this recipe produce a bar that holds together reasonably well? I'm wondering if it would be better to put it into individual containers. Of course then there is NO air circulation around it, so that may cause it to go bad without some added preservatives. Hmmmmm.....

    Shave Soap Labeling

Just found this thread. Here is a reference addressing this very question. http://goo.gl/HUcDl

    Name Headaches!

Agreed. I had a hard time thinking up a name for my future microbiz as well. I like Pure Serendipity because it doesn't have "soaps" or "soapworks" in it. It could expand into a nice brand in the future.

    Polka Dot Success!

Great! All scented the same? I've thought it would be cool to scent each ball differently and then have them combine into a nice blend when you distribute them throughout the soap.

    Polka Dot Success!

Sweet! Did you hand roll the balls or create them in some sort of mold?

Describing Pine Tar Soap w/o medical claims?

Then why sell pine tar or oatmeal soap at all? I'm sorry, but I don't feel that there is anything wrong with directing people on how to educate themselves about a certain type of product you sell. The law says you can't make medical claims about your product. You aren't doing that by telling...

    Fall FOs

My current "plan" is to do mixtures of basic FOs for scents this fall and winter. So spices, fall fruits, pines, etc. Figure it is a unique way to make a particular scent that I can tweak to my liking.
