    A (Probably) Stupid Question

Jules, I asked that question too when I made mine, but no one really knows. I guess, we'd all have to take a trip to Castile and hunt around for some old soap making factories and see what they use.... trip anyone???

    A (Probably) Stupid Question

Aleppo soap is Aleppo soap. I don't think anyone considers that castile (like how savon de Marseille is not considered castile). Dr. Bronners is merely false advertising.

    A (Probably) Stupid Question

I am exactly like you, impatient as anything and want instant gratification with my soaps. with that said, I made new years castile along with many others here at SMF. the thing that's helped me with it was leaving it somewhere hard to reach and where I didn't have to look at everyday. it sat...

    Separation?

your CO is just melting in the bucket from the heat outside. I would also suggest (on top of soaping at lower temps) stick blending a little longer to make sure everything is well blended.

Need a recipe for these oils :)

here's a soapmaking oil chart. it's really important to do your research and get comfortable using the lye calculator. it'll help in the future when you want to make your own recipes. good luck, and happy soaping! http://www.lovinsoap.com/oils-chart/

    Is this weird?

sad as it is, we raised a goat for food. we had many friends and acquaintances ask this question. people don't grow or make their food and supplies anymore, so how are they to know where things come from?? and yes, I think it's sad. I really dislike people perpetuating the...

    Christmas 2014

you should! to me, it just doesn't feel quite as festive. where I lived, people would buy pine trees to decorate (Canadian ones at that), but it's still not the same!

    Christmas 2014

I've spent the past 4 Christmases in the tropics, and to me (growing up in north America), Christmas without snow is just....weird....

    Soap in Freezer

I lived in the Caribbean in the forest, so everything is prone to mold. all the soaps I made were kept in my curing room (just a storage closet) and I've had no problems in the 10 months I was soaping there.....

How do people respond to your soap?

don't think of it as begging, think of it as market research. a lot of the times people (and when I say people, I mean friends/family) love the look of the soap so much they don't want to use it. I gave some friends 3 bars last Christmas. as of 2 months ago, they STILL haven't used any. and...

    Soap in Freezer

the soaps we had were CO and soybean oil. they were gummy and not great compared to mine (but I COULD be biased...hehe). we went through about a bar of soap a week and they got gummy and gross. I can't speak for any other oils like hemp, on its performance after being in the fridge, but all I...

How do people respond to your soap?

that can be true, but when you're first starting off, people don't know to ask or friends/family don't want to be presumptuous and ask for free stuff. I gave a lot of mine away over Christmas, requesting feedback (which I received from almost everyone, comments from "it's really nice, I like...
