I was that annoying soaper at the stand!

I would have bought that soap only if the hands of Jesus were the ones that made it. I'm finding that the "precious oils" I use are better left as sprays or air diffusers. I have to respect the soaper who lets the customers know that the soaps are not ready yet. I would hate to see "fresh"...

How much chocolate to add and how?

I think it would in a way: thank you wikipedia. I've never used chocolate bars, but maybe you could calculate how to use unsweetened chocolate based on how much of it is the fat.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Now I want some scrambled eggs and beef bacon with some real southern-style biscuits (not Pillsbury). Good biscuits are so hard to come buy... at a decent price. Getting back to soapy things, I'm thinking of making another HP soap.

    Favourite EO blends with patchouli

I like blending patchouli with lime, lavender, frankincense, myrrh, benzoin (sensitizing but smells good), and jasmine. I can't do this, but Virginia cedarwood is good with patchouli too.

What to do with my ugly or bad batch soaps?

I agree that is is a nice looking soap. I would keep it for personal use as it would be a true waste to throw it out. The others have also given some good suggestions as well.

    so when they say...

I think it may accelerate trace depending on how it is used. EOs/FOs can't do much damage if they are used in HP (so I think), but CP is another story. I am lucky that I only had ricing to contend to thanks to Jasmine FO and dried rosemary (I'll blame that herb too).

What soapy thing have you done today?

I finally cut my soap and I'm stuck pondering why both my beer-lard soap as well as my cocoa butter soap were both really soft. I practically left the latter in the mold for more than 2 days and I still had trouble popping it out. I'm thinking that my new technique will be scrapped as it may be...

Soap additives & specialty ingredients - what do you use?

I love how you think! :) That actually reminds me of the truffles I got my self for my b-day. If I were you, I would go for it and follow up with Peppermint Patty soaps for the holidays. ;)

What soapy thing have you done today?

If all hairs are made up of similar proteins, dog hairs might actually work... I'll stick to the human hairs though.

Where is that single bar recipe...?

That sounds like a good recipe. The castor oil may be contributing to the softness as it can yield a soft, sticky soap if too much is used. You may already know this, but castor oil attracts and retains moisture. Many soapers use 3% castor to be on the safe side, though there maybe a few who...

Thread titles and my very strange mind.

 This is the first thread that made me choke with laughter. I second this motion. :)

Where is that single bar recipe...?

I have also found that lard soaps tend to be soft, but they really do make hard soaps. Much like OO, it is a matter of patience (it seems). Did you have a higher ratio of soft oils to hard oils? I found out (the hard way) that soft oils take longer to cure.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have successfully made a plain-Jane HP honey soap using CO for the SF. The best part for today is the easy clean up for another soap... maybe. :) I have to agree, beer concentrate adds a lovely lather to a soap.

What makes the fatty salts different?

I'll apologize for repeating the beginner's lesson. :) Check out this site. It gives the overview of the fatty acid types. You can also find a few more sites on the yahoo search engine. @Lion of Judah: Thanks. :)

What makes the fatty salts different?

To sum it up, it's all in the chemistry (literally). From this thread, DeeAnna explains why NaOH is used for bar soaps and KOH is used for liquid soaps. As for the properties you get from using varying oils, it all comes down to the molecular make up of the oil and the resulting properties. I...
