    Frankincense: any experts out there?

I know you said not PubMed, but give this article a try, at least as far as the "background" section, which may answer your questions re which is used for what. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3258268/

    Customer reaction to LAAARD !!

http://aquinn.co.uk/wordpress/?p=274 " In Aliens (1986) pig squeals are used as a large component of the Aliens vocals...In Backdraft Gary Rydstrom used pigs and other animal vocals including snakes and lions to give the fire a character and to make it sound more aggressive"

Castor Oil types - is this type alright?

Oh! I'm glad it was helpful. I wonder how "trace" the amounts are, but it's not the sort of thing that is printed on any labels...it would take some detective work! Canola is also heavily treated in the fields with Roundup, here at least. As a final straw, I found it was prone to DOS when I...

    Mom needs help. . . .

What sort of medical person would be ok with anecdotal advise based on extremely limited information and no knowledge of the case vs going to see a doctor? And would suggest any topical lotion prior to assessment and diagnosis? You said "get a tube of hydrocortisone. That should clear it up...

Ugh, my soap is drying out my skin

I would say up the superfat level then. It would act somewhat like a little lotion, ime.

Castor Oil types - is this type alright?

For the record, hexane is a solvent commonly used in the extraction of oils, including common food oils like canola (yeah, I know that doesn't change the properties of the hexane, but it's not being directly used for soaping. The oil that is not hexane-free would have trace amounts possible due...

    Minty minty minty!

For a cheap way to sniff them, I would suggest going to the candy counter and picking up three versions of lifesavers, which come in those flavours and smell reasonably like the herb. (Or really anything that has those flavours)

Suggestions for facial scrub please :)

I'd also suggest finely ground oatmeal and water or milk (you can mix powdered milk and fine oatmeal (try a coffee grinder or food processor to zip it down to fine powder), if the sugar is too harsh, and you don't like the oil. The other option would be to steam your face and then just use...

    A Question of Manners?

I don't know why it would be "bad manners" but it may not be a very lucrative market if it is already so saturated, even if the current vendors aren't doing well. On the other hand, the buyers might be longing for some decent soap choices... :) If you went in with a dedicated soap booth, you...

    Mom needs help. . . .

With all due respect, I think we should be recommending the situation be assessed in person by a medical person, medications evaluated, and so forth before giving specific medical advice or recommending medication. Cortisone can be really useful in difficult skin conditions, but it can also...

Ugh, my soap is drying out my skin

But the skin reportedly feels fine, not tight or irritated, which is what I would consider "drying" - so I'm still wondering if we're barking up the right tree. Picky point maybe, but soap is to clean, and will not moisturise. Oil doesn't moisturise either. Moisture (water) does. Oil...

Ugh, my soap is drying out my skin

I asked what he has used in the past, before he used soap, and that's where the wash came into the discussion. My question was to see what the skin was "used to" being washed with, and how things felt with the previous products. I see where it was a bit confusing.

Ugh, my soap is drying out my skin

another thought: sometimes if I change what I use on my skin, I find I need to exfoliate, because it almost seems like the new product changes things enough that my skin's outer layer of cells comes off. Not in a bad way, just like the dead skin that got "used to" the old product comes off...

Ugh, my soap is drying out my skin

I personally dislike shea in soap, but that's just me. You can't choose your superfat oil unless you HP. Lye will not leave one oil alone just because you intended it to superfat. I personally would die of itchy skin and fragrance overload if I used old spice body wash, just saying to...

Ugh, my soap is drying out my skin

I have lots of questions: What is your superfat level? What is your water like? What did you use before soap? When you say drying out your skin, is it making your skin feel tight temporarily after you wash, irritated later on, or is it causing redness flaking or a rash over several uses? Do...

De-ionised vs Distilled water - easy sources & is one preffered?

Considering, more usefully, that most people haven't got a clue about filters, infectious doses of virus, the viral load of the initial water, nor aseptic technique......it's probably enough to say "lye will kill any nasties, if you haven't cleaned your dehumidifier, but buying distilled water...
