    First Castile!

Thanks Hazel! The first soap I ever made was 90% olive and 10% castor. Even after 8 weeks it was still softish and slimy when I used it. This time I'm going fight against my nature and be patient :) Hope I can make it. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Soap Making mobile app

    Shampoo soap FDA classification

The shampoo bars I've been making is CP soap. According to the link from Paintguru, that company lost the case because they did add a detergent.

    Shampoo soap FDA classification

Thank you both! I love shampoo bars and hope to sell my own in a few years when I perfect a recipe (three different bars so far). Already tearing my hair out over regulations :) Any words such as "softening" or "volumizing" would push it into cosmetic territory though. It's funny how the same...

    Shampoo soap FDA classification

Thanks, dagmar! So just to clarify, once you have the intended use of a product as for hair, it moves it from a soap to a cosmetic and the label has to follow INCI regulations

    Shampoo soap FDA classification

Want to start out by saying I am not selling, but I was wondering about one of the FDA labeling regs. Without getting into labeling or advertising (I've read enough posts to know that open a whole different can of worms), I was wondering if shampoo soap, just by the fact that it's a shampoo...

    Question - First craft show

That is very helpful! My mom does use PayPal for her massage therapy business. I'll have her play around with it.

    Question - First craft show

Thank you everybody for your insight and experience. I'll pass all this on to my mom. I figure helping her with the craft show will also give me some experience in them in case I do some one day :) Right now I'm just working on researching VA tax law.

    Question - First craft show

Hi everyone! I'm a soap maker myself, but going to my first craft show in December to help my mom sell her candles, no soap involved. This is also her first craft event. She didn't consider this, but I think I'd be a good idea to hand out paper itemized receipts to customers. I didn't think it...

    Is this DOS?

It was a cardboard label. Most of the discoloration is where the cardboard covered, but there is a little orange spot on the side where the label didn't cover. Not really soft, maybe a little bit sticky. Sent from my SCH-I800 using Soap Making mobile app

    Is this DOS?

Thanks everybody. I thought so. Now I know what to look for in my own soaps as they age. I've kept this soap around for several months. It was also humid here this summer. None of the other soaps I bought from this vender in January have gone bad. They have different recipes though. What are...

    Is this DOS?

I bought this soap in late January. Soon after, I started to make my own soap and neglected this one. When I checked this soap the other day, I saw some discoloration and it smelled a bit sour. I have yet to see DOS on my own soaps, so I was wondering if this is DOS. Ingredients: Saponified...

    Black soap?

Do you mean soap colored black, or the soap from Ghana? If it's color, I've never done it before, but I've seen black charcoal soaps. There are probably also synthetic colorants. As far as the Ghana soap, there have been several threads on this forum regarding that. I haven't seen a hard and...

    Greetigs

I use 100% pure (I guess plain) olive oil. I don't think there is much of a difference which olive oil you use other than cost.

About to make first ever batch of CP

Your recipe looks fine to me. I've used all those oils except jojoba in soap. It's too expensive for me to use in a wash off product. I'm relatively new to soap myself, but I would try running your formula through soapcalc.net. That might give you a better idea of the properties of your soap...

    Cardamom FO

Thanks for the reply, Judy! I'll definitely have to look those up. Additional question, is it even a good idea to mix EOs and FOs in a soap? Didn't even consider that issue until after I asked. I may just spring for the EO. It'll be my luxury :)
