    Mini Dessert Soap Challenge!

How is everyone getting on with this? I did some work on it at the weekend - it's really quite a tough challenge! A good learning experience though :)

What soapy thing have you done today?

I tried to make my mini dessert soaps for this months soap challenge. Many firsts for me - first time using a food product in soap ( coconut milk), first time piping soap (or piping anything for that matter!), first time venturing out of a loaf or slab mould...my kitchen is chaos but I'm quite...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Ooh those look nice Dahila, nice subtle colours. I attempted my first butterfly swirl this evening. I think the suspense of waiting to cut it might challenge me!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Not only the postage cost but you would have to pay VAT and a handling fee once it arrives in the UK! Adds up to be very pricey indeed!

    natural colorants

Anything powder you should just be able to put into a little oil and mix! Very roughly speaking around a teaspoon of powder into 10ml of oil works for me - then add to your soap at trace. Obviously you need to judge how much to use depending on how much soap you're making and how strong you want...

    Introduction

Hello Angela:) I'm in Bristol so not a million miles from you! I think sometimes we in the UK forget how lucky we are to be surrounded by so many historic sites and places of interest!

    natural colorants

Nice link spiderpup! I've used annatto before - I dispersed the powder in a little oil then added it at trace. If you don't disperse but add the powder at trace you will still get the colour but it may be speckly and a bit scratchy in the soap. I'm not sure what you mean by using lemon for...

Post you ugly soap pics here - Troubleshooting thread

A badly behaved fragrance oil caused separation and a scarily lye heavy soap (picture 1). So i rebatched it and now it looks like minced beef! (picture 2). Despite looking horrible it smells quite nice so may still get use out of it.

    I just got........ZAPPED.

I had my first zap this morning! I had a problem batch which separated on me when I added the fragrance oil, so I blended blended blended and got it pretty much back together and in the mould. On unmoulding it looked very lumpy so I was expecting it not to have saponified properly, and on...

    Labeling of potential allergans/irritants

Just for info - here is an example of an eu ingredients listing for a product containing essential oils. The specific allergens are listed at the end and there are no extra statements about allergens anywhere else on the packaging. In my opinion this puts the buyer in a good position to decide...

Love that design - definitely one I'll be trying!

    Labeling of potential allergans/irritants

Your essential oil supplier should be able to provide you with an allergen declaration for each essential oil. You should then include the particular allergen in your ingredient listing. E.g. bergamot eo contains citral, linalool and limonene - so these should be listed at the end of your...

Spin swirls - previous 3 batches!!

I like your second one - it kind of reminds me of aquafresh toothpaste! I did two attempts - the first was a rainbow of colours with some black too- the idea being a kind of 'intergalactic' theme. But the black was too much and the trace too thin so the result wasn't very spectacular. So I then...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I just made some cp soap with chamomile and bergamot scent, blue and yellow colours in the pot swirl. I used ultramarine for the blue but it looked quite dull on pouring so I'm hoping it will brighten a bit after a good gel phase!
