    "blacksmith" fragrance help

I know, I don't think it would smell very nice at all. Sort of "manly death" vibes. But the man is who he is & I want to try to make it happen. Thank you!

    "blacksmith" fragrance help

Would a tobacco fragrance smell like smoke? Or smoky? Forgive me, I don't really have any idea how fragrances work 😄 - I barely have my head around lavender.

Help! Replicating soap bar without the full ingredients list

I know I'm new here but I definitely have a batch where the smell of cocoa butter has survived saponification.

    "blacksmith" fragrance help

A friend has asked me to replicate the smell of a bar of soap he got on etsy once. It was called something like "Blacksmith" and the fragrances he remembers were "hot iron, coal, and smoke." From what he says it wasn't, like, VIBES of blacksmith-- the actual smell was something like hot metal...

How long before testing a bar?

Thanks so much, that's great to know.

How long before testing a bar?

I know cold process soap needs to cure for weeks or months. I have 4-6 weeks in my mind although I'm sure it varies by recipe. But I'm looking for basic information about the batches I've already made because I'm still working on a recipe: like, how does it feel, how does it lather, how does my...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thank you! No, I poured from pitchers.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Lessons learned from batch #5: I can do a mini drop swirl! The problem with batch #3 was the water content, not the recipe. This one was nearly the same recipe (same hard:soft ratio anyway) and it set up fine. Too much mica, I suspect. I'm anticipating some gross lather. A color combo that...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Ah! Nope. I didn't. I thought alcohol only controlled a particular kind of soda ash. Didn't realize it would help with bubbles. Thank you!

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my first attempt at a mini drop swirl. The errors were plentiful: ran out of two oils so I was substituting as I went; used yellow instead of gold mica; and the loaf is full of bubbles again, I'm going to have to get that under control. But I learned some stuff too. And however the...

    Washing tips?

Thanks, all! @AliensrReal do you find washing as you go messes with the skin on your hands? Or are you wearing gloves?

    Washing tips?

What's the best way to clean my soaping containers and utensils? Should I wash up right away or let things dry and saponify first? How does soaping gradu treat the sink and pipes?

    first batch with colors!

Thank you so much! That's beautiful. The gold-ish color is Mad Micas's King Tut and the gray-blue is Bramble Berry's Stormy Blue. Both of them are a little different in the loaf than they were in the container: King Tut looks more gold than copper in the container, and the Stormy Blue is more...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I don't mind at all! This was titanium dioxide for the white ofc, Mad Micas's King Tut, and Bramble Berry's Stormy Blue, which looks more gray-blue in the loaf. Thank you so much!

    first batch with colors!

They got a little muddy, I learned some things, but I'm pretty proud of these. Feel like a lot of fun with micas is in my future.

What soapy thing have you done today?

    Holy cow! It worked!

What soapy thing have you done today?

I used colorants for the first time! In-the-pot swirl. It was harder than I expected to fully blend the micas in without a bunch of bubbles, and I think the swirl got muddy. I still feel pretty good about it. We'll see!

Tricks for getting fragrance out of silicone?

Appreciate all the input. At this stage I have all the questions, really. Both whether the smell would transfer to another batch of soap, and whether the clean and dry mold sitting on my shelf would still smell like lavender in a week. It sounds like that depends on a few factors including my...
