    "blacksmith" fragrance help

That's a good idea, thank you. I might do that.

    "blacksmith" fragrance help

Thanks. That's kind of the feeling I had.

    "blacksmith" fragrance help

Update: I found the soap and the seller on etsy. Is there any angle from which it would be okay to ask another soapmaker about what fragrances they use? I don't want to insult them or breach any etiquette.

What soapy thing have you done today?

How do you test two dozen FOs in a weekend?

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

Okay awesome, thank you all. Maybe I didn't mix it in well enough-- I was freaked out by how fast the batter was setting and trying to move quickly. I'm going to give this fragrance oil another shot because of how much I like it, and prepare better for any possible acceleration/ give myself time...

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

There are spots on the inside as well but they're more translucent. Kind of hard to see. A few of them look orange-ish but the others are just a bit dark. I shouldn't have stearic spots soaping above 120 degrees, should I?

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

No, everything is new cause I've only been soaping for ... actually it's a month today! Guess I need to learn a little more about ricing. Thank you.

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

No, it smells great. Sprucy. I just unmolded it today though.

first dreaded spots, what went wrong?

I used nearly the same recipe I used for a previous batch, with which I didn't have any trouble: 297g olive oil 297g shea butter 180g coconut oil 76 108g sweet almond oil 18g castor oil + 248g water 122g NaOH + 28g fragrance (Candlescience Blue Spruce) The differences were: * Slightly higher...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Mixed results. The ombre actually worked better than I expected despite being plopping consistency by halfway through, but I've got my first spots! Not sure what went wrong, I used the same recipe I used for my last batch and only changed my soaping temperature, colors, and fragrance. Reviews of...

    tempering shea butter

You all are the best. I found something helpful from @DeeAnna in another thread too, about making sure it's fully melted.

Untempered Shea Butter Resulting in Crumbly, Grainy Soap?

This is the answer to a question for me, thank you!

    tempering shea butter

Really? I've seen recommendations about tempering it. I'll look into it more, thank you.

    Third Time Lucky Lavender?

That makes sense. I find I really enjoy the process (so far), and don't mind if it takes ages. Cause once it's done there's nothing left but the cleanup. 😕

    Third Time Lucky Lavender?

Oh that's beautiful!! How did pouring from pitchers work? Do you remember what kind of trace you used?

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made my 8th batch today. I was all excited about the scent and the colors and trying to make sure it goes through gel, and then I soaped much warmer than usual for me. Completely forgot that would make it set up faster. I was going to do an ombre. So I've done a sort of a plopping ombre, which...

    tempering shea butter

I found somewhere the guidance that shea butter should be heated to 175F and then cooled to 95F before using. Does it need to be by itself cooling, or could I help the cooling process (and also melt other solid fats like coconut oil) by mixing my solid fats for the recipe into the hot shea butter?

    Washing tips?

Thanks, Michael, it does. Then do you put your microfiber towels in the washing machine as normal? How long do you wait before cleaning them?

    Coconut Oil Free Soap

I think Dr. Bronner's uses coconut oil even though it calls itself castile.

    Seventh Batch

    No, I wasn't. Thank you. That's a terrific suggestion.
