    Fix a cracking-soap recipe

Thank you! I searched all over eBay, but the oval molds all seemed to make guest-sized bars. These are perfect.

    Fix a cracking-soap recipe

I like that bar shape. It is exactly the mold shape my wife is looking for! (now I have to hunt for that shape!)

What soapy thing have you done today?

I can recommend 'PrintedbyRay' on Etsy. He did a great job making my custom acrylic stamps. If I end up making lots of transparent soap, my plan would be to switch to the slow cooker recipes. Those involve, if I recall correctly, several solvents mixed with your soap base, then sealed into the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

This week was too busy with 'real work' to do much other than weigh my soap for my cure cards. But I have plans! After running an errand or two this morning, I'm planning to make another batch of the Bastille I made a few weeks ago, the one I put madder root in, and molded in cubes. I think they...

'Old Reliable' or 'Core' Cold Process Recipes

@Zany_in_CO I have some further number crunching to share. I've changed the 'day by day' chart to a weekly measure. The curves on all three sample bars are very similar, with the cube losing weight the most slowly, and the small, thin bar losing weight the fastest. I'll continue to weigh in...

My largest project so far: 5.62 kilo (12.4 lbs.) double batch of soap batter

Don't worry, if I hold true to my normal pattern I will fade at the six-year mark. No matter what success I have, I always fade at the 6 year mark... So that gives me until April Fool's Day 2029...

have liquid glycerine - how to use it to make soap

Yes, it isn't a recipe that would ever pass anybody's 'natural ingredient list' test. I have always just been curious about clear soap and I wanted to try making some as a novelty.

have liquid glycerine - how to use it to make soap

It's fun to make transparent soap with it. I did it for the first time this past weekend (it's one of four or five additional chemicals you need to use to make the transparent soap). Easy DIY Clear Soap Easy Transparent Soap- Learn How to Make DIY Clear Soap in Less than Ten Minutes!

What soapy thing have you done today?

We have a big 5-filter rig in our basement, and it has really cut down on the dust level in the house. I love it. I'll be rigging a drying box as soon as I can get the racks. You might get away with a single filter on the bottom, with the fan on top pulling air through... Thanks, Shelley! I...

What soapy thing have you done today?

First photo of the transparent soap out of the mold. I'll have to read up to see if I can figure out where the tint came from,* but I am not displeased with my first effort! *I'm guessing it will turn out to be related to the quality of the coconut oil.

How have your other hobbies, skills, and interests helped you with soap making?

I'm in my early 60s and have had a lot of jobs and hobbies. Things I've done that I feel will help me be a good soaper: I made my own ammunition for about four years, which I used for target shooting. It taught me to adhere to process and how to weigh things carefully. I worked as a carpenter...

    10% Honey - Help finding a thread

QQ, that's exactly what I did. I did add the lye water very slowly, checking temperature between dollops. It never got above 97f. I did have beeswax and a honey FO in there, too; complex but fun batch. I'll try to make the next batch in the series next weekend. The just-poured bars look great...

    Never made soap...yet

As I've been describing my soap-making efforts over the last few months, my wife's most common reply is some variation of 'that sounds just like cooking!' and of course, it is! Just as much cleanup, too! Welcome to the forum.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made the first in a planned series of high-honey soaps. This starter batch is 6% honey by total weight of oil. I'm going to increase 2 percentage points per batch until (1) it stops acting like soap, (2) I get to 14%, or (3) I get bored! Now that that batch is in molds, I'm going to make my...
