    Milk Cartons

I used a kitchen knife to cut after about 24 hours. However, cuts are not precise as I want it to be. Thinking of a way to do it more properly. you're welcome.

    Milk Cartons

I use pizza boxes with a oil paper lining, which I attach using double sided tapes.. The walls of these boxes are stronger than the milk cartons and can be torn off without making dents to the soap.

    CPLS : Unpleasant odor

Thanks, the leftover SFO in the bottle appears to be in good condition that even be used in cooking. I wonder how such thing can turnout bad on soap. I'm planning to make both bar soap and LS in coming weeks. Let me try excluding the SFO, however already purchased castor oil, hope that won't...

    CPLS : Unpleasant odor

The FO that I added eventually faded off and the smell came back. I added 2ml of FO on 150g of paste diluted with 450ml of water. I didn't wanted to go for high concentrations as it may leave heavy stain of smell in the hands (we use this LS as hand wash). My initial suspicion was on the...

    CPLS : Unpleasant odor

the CPLS paste I made has an unpleasant odor. I initially thought that it may be due to the oils used (Palm,Coconut,Sunflower & Olive). The odor disappeared when FO was mixed. However, after a month or two the FO strength reduced and the odor appeared again. I only added FO in small % ( 2ml per...

    How to thicken liquid soap

Yes. I also noted it, is't it specific to HEC. No such issues mentioned under HPMC or other types of thickeners discussed. like I said earlier, I'm looking into these thickeners as I find salt less consistent with performance and sometimes given undesirable results. Also it's said to reduce...

    How to thicken liquid soap

I made sodium citrate solution using citric acid and baking soda. I added approx 3ml to 600ml of diluted LS soap (which has approx palm 55%, coconut 20%, olive 5% & sunflower 20% oils). This soap is actually a hybrid soap with 20% NaOH & 80% KOH. I wanted to figure out a different thickener...

    How to thicken liquid soap

I'm posting this on a little outdated thread. However it seems to be relevant to the context. I've been looking to replace my LS thickener from Salt to something more stable and does not reduce the lather. read about HEC and HPMC in this thread and few other places. I wanted to know the GRAS...

    Citrates : The Chemistry behind..

As suggested by DeeAnna I've added Ounce & Grams as input and output units. All the cells highlighted in yellow can be changed. Google says the the conversion ratio between ounce & grams is 28.34952, which I have used in the conversion.

    Citrates : The Chemistry behind..

As suggested by DeeAnna; I added a summary page to the excel file I shared earlier. Hope it would be useful to the community. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the imperial measurement system used in US. hence just mentioned as units. please note the ingredients units will be the same...

    Citrates : The Chemistry behind..

Ha ha great.. :) Thanks, I actually started to work on this excel to understand the ratios you've mentioned in your article. I also noted that the Citric acid : Baking soda ratio tallying with what's stated in your article. I'll try to simplify as you suggested and insert a home page...

    Citrates : The Chemistry behind..

I've read about ions of sodium & potassium Citrates improving the soap by reducing the soap scum by binding up the metal ions, thus act as a clelating agent. https://classicbells.com/soap/citrate.html the above article by DeeAnna provides simplified approach to use of Cirtates in the soaps...

CPLS : Seeking advise on formulating the recipe

Yes this is exactly what is happening. it changes from thick to thin within a very short range of temperature change. Yes, I understand. Mine is a hybrid soap with 20% NaOH. I've added salt on a small amount which I diluted. So I have plenty of paste to dilute without adding salt. The Oleic...

CPLS : Seeking advise on formulating the recipe

Thanks for the explanations. When I said paste, I was actually referring to the diluted soap only. I used salt as thickener soon after diluting the paste in water at 3:1 ratio. The soap wasn't thick or syrupy at that point. that's why I added salt. But few days later it started to gel out when...

CPLS : Seeking advise on formulating the recipe

Thanks for the explanation. I read thru the link shared, where you've said with the abundance of water content, the Sodium soap will stop trying to be organized, thereby forming a water thin soap. I've diluted this lot at 1:3, do you think increasing the water content to 1:4 & 1:5 might help to...

CPLS : Seeking advise on formulating the recipe

I didn't try to make liquid soap from bar soap. It's a hybrid soap paste with 20% NaOH & 80% KOH, thru cold processed method. My previous batch was 100% KOH. Hence it's a difference between the two batches. Do you think that allowing enough time would make the NaOH based soap portion to separate...
