    Strider soap

I'm hoping the soap gremlins will leave me alone now! New bucket of lard, new jar of coconut oil (both of the previous containers were down to scraping the sides anyway), new bottle of NaOH and a new battery in the scale, even though the scale seemed to be doing OK. May give up on the Menards...

    Cosplay and sewing

Does anyone else here do cosplay costumes? I am working on my first, a Jedi General from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cartoon that ran on Disney. I cut out all of the big pieces for the outer tunic this evening and laid them out in place: I have not sewn since I outgrew 4H hmm-odd years...

Oh the things you begin to notice...

When you've been doing this for a while, and researching, and looking at labeling requirements and reading this forum and other groups. My mother was given some handmade bath products from a coworker in her office. A sugar scrub and a couple of bath bombs. The scrub is in a beautiful bottle...

It was bound to happen eventually...

It came back together OK, Wednesday night. I cut it just now but it is still suuuper soft and tacky in the fresh cuts. Guess we'll see how it cures out in a few weeks.

    Christmas 2016

Ahh, you know that you have reached adulthood when Christmas feels more like a deadline than anything else.

It was bound to happen eventually...

All right, it's in the crock pot. Fingers crossed.

It was bound to happen eventually...

No, it's BB's White Tea & Ginger and I've soaped it before with great results. I just made an error somewhere, somehow. Bad lye (no phenolphthalein, so I can't check purity), a couple minutes too long on the heating pad, I dunno. There's not much lye left in that bottle so I'm going to just...

Maybe Thursday when I have time. I haven't pitched it yet.

I think I've got the first batch of soap I'm going to have to toss. It's one I made following the loaf that was far too soft and I thought it didn't gel. Well, it's possible it did with a superfat higher than I accounted for cuz I think the bottle of lye I was/am using is going bad. I made...

    Gel question

I'll keep this trick in mind, though I think I'm just going to leave these and let them do their thing on their own. I can't be bothered to take the time to put them back in the mold, LOL. Too much else to do so close to Christmas.

    Gel question

Yeah, I tend to try to make sure all of my batches gel, but I'm thinking that this one didn't. Covering it up apparently wasn't enough this time. It's two days out and it's still soft and tacky, although firm enough I was able to cut it. I expect if I wanted to sculpt with it I probably could...

    Gel question

If your soap doesn't gel, does it tend to take a little longer to unmold? Like, a couple of days? I neglected to set the batch I made Saturday night on a heating pad for a few minutes and I just now took it out of the mold and cut it and it was still pretty soft, like I could've left it in the...

My work place stinks - literally

One semester in college I worked on a pig farm for my student job. I feel like I had this issue, or it stuck in my nose. The smell didn't bother me too terribly, but it wasn't what you'd call pleasant. And at the time I lived with 30 other girls in one of those cooperative living houses and a...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I finally was able to make the time to use the scent blend I made last weekend. I'll pay for it in questions from the paternal parental unit about why t-shirts aren't printed, but at least there is soap!

    First scent blend

It moved just a hair faster than I would have liked, but I'm reasonably happy with how the blend behaved. As long as it doesn't rice or seize or take off like a drag racer, I'll deal.

    First scent blend

Those aren't bad thoughts really. I had notes for Dobby (laundry and cooking spices, maybe rosemary?) and The Burrow (oatmeal and cinnamon/nutmeg or so). I've had someone insist I should do a Captain America soap and scent it with an apple pie fragrance oil. I laughed. I just might.

    First scent blend

Dixie - in this case it's a Star Wars character blend (I'll let you guess who). I've got notes for a couple of others, along with notes for Lord of the Rings characters and Harry Potter characters. I need to expand on some other ideas, but I gotta dabble around in the opinions of other folks who...

    First scent blend

After toying with the idea of scent blends for fandom, I made my first one this morning and now it needs soaped, which I'll do this afternoon if I get the chance. I am nervous, though about how it's going to behave when it hits the batter. The only unknown being the smallest portion of the...

    Grumpy vent

I could be really sarcastic about his 'right mind', but I won't, LOL. He's well enough in himself, he's just a mule. I did threaten to wrap his hypothetical prosthesis in hot pink glitter vinyl, should his leg ever get that bad. Fortunately I 'only' live with them at the moment due to my own...
