C'mon! Pics! I can't be the only one to put up pics of my fails!

    3d Printer!!

Gini: The printer is doing great! I still haven't started in on learning 3d design, though, I'm way behind on editing so I need to get that done before I can. *sigh* Fun, fun, fun. KattChaos: I've seen that measuring cube a lot. It looks neat, but I'm not really super impressed with the...

    Shampoo bar oops?

Hope it helps, and let us know how the soap comes out after it cures. Maybe even some pics? We like pics here. We like them a lot.

    Shampoo bar oops?

With 10% SF it's too oily to be good laundry soap, it'll leave stains on clothes. It's also not a good shampoo bar, the pH of soap will damage your hair. You have potentially made a decent shower soap, though, depending on how your skin likes it.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Might have to see about ordering some and giving it a try. Thanks for the link!

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

Yep, this is a do-over. I got ONE decent looking heart. Looks like I completely missed a couple of the columns.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I am envious. I can't find tallow around here for love or money.

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

Unless the cut is just spectacular, I'm thinking I'm going to wind up making another run at this one. My loaf is out of the mold. Partial gel is clearly evident, it didn't quite gel all the way to the ends. Not going to try to CPOP after the fact, since I don't expect this batch to be my entry...

Best way to dilute mica colorant

I use stainless steel condiment cups to mix my colors, whether with oil or water. I have one of the mini frothers that works great for breaking up clumps and making it nice and smooth. I also have silicone spatulas that are the perfect shape for the cups, only takes a couple of swipes to get...

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

Yea, it kind of was. Mine was thick enough by the time I remembered about doing the design that it left tracks that I had to bang the mold on the counter to get closed. Eep. Hope I didn't leave any gaping holes in my soap. I hope I get hearts... As I understand it, it's one swipe through...

How many different recipes do you use on average?

I'm still fairly new to making soap, so I use different recipes almost every time, though there are I think three so far that I've made more than once. As far as how they leave my skin feeling, so far I'm not noticing a whole lot of difference between the recipes I have used, but then it may...

My first try is in the mold. I almost forgot to swirl it, and the swirl may or may not have worked. I also didn't use enough pigment in my main color. Will have to wait and see how it turns out.

    Ugly soap contest!

If you rebatched again, without adding any more color, it would be a lighter shade of the teal/green/blue you've already added. Grating your soap as fine as you can will give you a more even color, though you're still going to have bits of uncolored soap because not all of it will melt.

Dual Lye Cold Process Soap with Henna

I'm not sure if you mean just indigo, or a combination of henna and indigo, though it sounds like you mean just indigo. How much did you use? I had good results with about a teaspoon of indigo in a pound of soap. What worked for me was to measure out a bit more distilled water than I needed for...

    Ugly soap contest!

Well, you can always grate it up and try again. Multiple rebatches are a thing that happens sometimes. I forget who it was, but someone here rebatched a soap six or seven times before they were happy how it looked. You could also use that batch to experiment with the technique of salting out...

    Ugly soap contest!

Yea, I had major problems trying to get color evenly mixed in when I made my meatballs. And I made the mistake of using a RED color. Don't use red in rebatch soaps. How fine you can grate the soap does seem to effect how ...lumpy the rebatch looks. I've got one I did, grated very very fine...

Acne prone skin - Grape seed oil

The tip I would offer would be to make small batches, and buy fresh oil for each batch. Grapeseed oil doesn't have a very long shelf life, and you don't want the oil or the soap going rancid on you. Also, the superfat % of your soap will effect how much oil is left in it, so you might...

    Ugly soap contest!

Oh my. Is that both loaves from the first pic? Of course, it may well wind up being pretty good soap after it cures, even if it is ugly. I've done worse, though, I had one rebatch I dubbed 'raw meatballs', and it wound up getting tossed because it was ugly and smelled kind of icky and was...

    Vanillin in whipped soap

I got vanillin crystals from https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/p-6237-vanillin-crystals.aspx. It smells very strongly of vanilla. It went through one stage where it didn't seem to have much scent, but it's developed as the soap cured. It also stains a LOT, makes dark brown lather right off...
