my M&P soap changes its scent after use

Wait, did the base you used have scent already added, then you added your EO combination to it? That might have been your culprit, if that's the case. Hmm, probably not though, don't see fragrance on the ingredient list, or anything that might be fragrance hiding under another name.

    All natural coconut scent

I'll try it, just ordered some from Eden.

    My new piped soap

For the first one, Rosé maybe?

    First Salt Bars Today

Made my first batch of salt bars! Recipe is 75% coconut oil, 20% apricot kernel oil, 5% castor oil with 50% salt added to the oils and 20% SF. Poured into individual molds, sprayed well with alcohol and covered. Color is Rainforest Mica Powder from Nurture. Unscented. I soaped at around 120*F...

    Less oily body butter please!

I've got a rather wide selection of oils and butters, the only reason I don't have MORE is that I've run out of space to store any more. (I'm kind of leaning toward declaring the orange peel wax a bust for soap making, it seized both times I used it in soap. But it should make for decent...

    Rookie mistake - help requested

To me, the easiest solution is going to be recalculate how much other oils, water and lye you need to add to bring the total CO % down where you want it, and wind up with a larger batch of soap than you intended. If you've got the mold space to do it that way, it's what I'd suggest before you...

    Less oily body butter please!

Everyone is going to have their own preferences for oils and butters. What I've done is rub just a little of JUST a single oil or butter into my skin, usually on an arm. Then see how it feels, how long it takes to absorb, how it smells. That might be a good plan for you to figure out just what...

    Some of this weekends soap

They're all pretty, but I think the blue and white one is my favorite, with the blue, black and white being a close second.

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

Glad to give you a laugh. I had a sort of similar conversation with the MIL while I was making the soap, she made some comment about it smelled good enough to eat. My response was "you'd only try it ONCE" which made her laugh. Used a combination of petitgrain, bergamot, litsea cubeba, neroli and...

Huh, that's an interesting idea. I may have to try that in another batch at some point. Should make for nice, neat columns that don't drift to one side or another.

    Bramble Berry gripe

So Bramble Berry sent me a prepaid shipping label this morning, with no comment beyond "we'll get your refund processed as soon as we get the product back." I wonder if they did check the rest of their stock and found that I was right about it having fragrance added? I've opened up and sniffed...

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

I used disposable piping bags for building my columns, and thought about using it for the base color as well (and it would have made things easier). It's super easy to control flow rate, and to keep even fairly thin batter from breaking through with the bags, plus you're pouring from a narrower...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Got my individual bar molds in today, along with the other loaf molds I bought. I can make over a dozen batches of soap before I run out of molds at this point, and that's NOT including the individual silicone molds I use for overflow. I think I might, just maybe, have enough soap molds. For...

    Less oily body butter please!

I use rice bran oil as the soft oil in my body butters, and yes, they're a little greasy feeling when first applied, but the greasiness goes away in two or three minutes, so long as you don't slather it on thick. You're not going to be able to get rid of it entirely using actual oils and butters...

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

Awesome! I have high hopes that the cut will come out nice, if it does I may well have my entry. Using the skewer before I added the final layer DID make it far easier to see where I needed to drag it, no need to guess where my hidden colors were (and I had beautiful hearts right on top before I...

my M&P soap changes its scent after use

Maybe? Though I'd suspect it's the base first. There shouldn't BE anything in your base that even could react with the EOs to morph into a sour scent.

    My new piped soap

Those are absolutely gorgeous!! Did you pipe the flowers and leaves on after the bars were cut?

I have what I think is attempt number 2 in a nice, cozy oven along with several extra molds worth. Question for galaxyMLP: Is it acceptable to build the soap up to the point just before the solid color covers the design, do the swipe through the colors, then hide the design with the base color?

    Seized up!

I would think that soaping cooler might also help slow down the seize at least long enough to stuff it into a mold? I've not used clove in soap yet, only cinnamon leaf and that moved FAST.
