    Bath bomb disaster

The no-fail recipe I've used for years. Got it from YouTube but no idea where. 1 cup baking soda 3/4 cup citric acid (anhydrous) 1/2 cup epsom salts 2 TBSP clay 1.5 TBSP sunflower, rice bran or other liquid oil 1.5 TBSP melted hard butter of choice (cocoa, kokum, other) 2 tsp Polysorb 80 some...

    Lanolin and Lather

Very informative, really interesting discussion! I wish I could get anywhere near lanolin in lotions or soaps, but break out in a bad rash even at small amounts. Another reason I won't buy anything without ingredients listed! Oddly enough I work with sheep fleece for felted soaps and no...

    bright orange?

I love and use a lot of 15x Orange, and my soaps are a pale orange-yellow. Maybe clove adds its own orange tint, IDK. I use silicone molds. Personally I think it's beautiful, I often swirl and stamp with a nice complementary copper.

Washing Machine - Front or Top Load?

Interesting point about the agitator vs. no agitator. I've been looking at top loaders for new laundry room, a washer without an agitator so's to wash pillows, cat beds, other lumpy things. I have an ancient Maytag washer, probably 20 years old, that has never had a single problem. Not...

    Non-Fading Natural Colorants

Cocoa, activated charcoal. Clays - pink, Brazilian purple, Brazilian yellow (both Brambleberry), orange, rose, green, Moroccan red - all the clays are pretty dull and earth-toned but still lovely. Pureed avocado and cucumber are pale but pretty and keep their color. Pureed tomato has kept its...

    Why clay?

I haven't the slightest bit of chemistry knowledge that so many of do but, my two cents: I like a bit of clay for the bit of 'slip' it brings to soap. Also, I find it really does anchor my fragrances. As for whitening, I use a good heaping tablespoon kaolin or other for 40 oz oil, and...

Lardinators! What lard do you use?

Oooh, is this for Fannie and Flo? Great tip, thanks!!!

Lardinators! What lard do you use?

Looked at Soapers Choice too, but it would be too horrifying to have it arrive in a bag in a pail. Fannie and Flo for me, and fill in with Armour.

Lardinators! What lard do you use?

Making lard soap today with leaf lard, grass-fed pigs, certified organic from Fannie and Flo on Etsy. Have some of their tallow too. What do y'all US soapers use? The really good stuff like theirs, or cheap brands like Armour (lard and hydrogenated lard)? I don't mind paying for the good...

    Experimenting with goats milk recipes

Boy oh boy was I reminded of this yesterday when I forgot to change the values in SoapCalc and soaped at --gasp-- 26% lye concentration. Despite CPOPing it is going to take forever to harden up enough to unmold. Soleseife no less! Also going to take all the good advice here and up lard or tallow...

    Unexpected changes when you move!

Congrats on the new job and back to school, galaxyMLP, that's great! What do you plan to teach? I'll be moving in a couple months too, cross-country from Virginia finally back home to my native Colorado. First to a rental, then when our house is finished, into it. DH has been out there since...

    GM Soap in Oven

Yikes, IrishLass, never seen anything like that! Have you thought about sending that pic to Essential Depot? That's a lot of soap to have to plane off!

A bunch of stuff for sale...

No, it was probably me, I was the first to respond and had my list made up lickety split :) So pleased with what I got, correspondence with Kat, and the miles of ideas in my head....

What soapy mistake have you made today?

First time out of the gate with tallow soap, and I'm not sure what multiple sins I committed to have made these two sad batches. Made two batches, one coffee with grounds (Crafter's Choice Coffee Beans FO and 15x sweet orange EO), the other with EO blend of same orange, clary sage and...

    Buying other people's soap

Here's where I ordered the Aleppo soap, very reasonable shipping too. I wish it were possible to buy directly from soapers in Aleppo, but alas, it looks like the city is totally bombed and largely abandoned. So hoping this can one day turn around and give these people back their livelihoods...

    Buying other people's soap

I do too! Having never tried it, had to buy some tallow soap from a couple soapers on Etsy, and am SOOOO impressed by one of them, a lovely naked deer tallow bar with faint but wonderful lavender and mint EOs. I will order from her again even when I have tallow soap under my belt. Ordered an...

My new Etsy Fair Trade Stamps for my soaps & labels

Oh, wonderful! I have a couple prehistoric-looking fish that are similar but finely carved wood instead of metal, and on very short handles. They haven't worked well for me, but gotta try one of these!

Are any of you cord cutters?

My TV won't let me watch PBS shows. I think I need Hulu for that and I'm not crazy about them.

Suggestions on heavy duty plastic bags for bath salts?

Haven't made bath salts in a year, but until then sold a lot of gift packages including a generous amount of bath salts containing EOs. Because the plastic salt containers I used deformed pretty quickly from the EOs I switched to mason jars. Ready to get back into making my spa kits, but will...
