    Annetto turned green?

I used olive oil and it turned a nice orange. Still not sure how I got avocado green from that!

    Little pits when slicing

Thanks for the feedback... here’s a close up of one of the worst ones, and my slicer.

    Little pits when slicing

I got these little marks on the sides of my soap when I sliced them today. Is this a sign of slicing too soon. These are my first hanger swirls, by the way, I’m so in love with swirls. Lemon lavender and mint lime. Should I scrape them with the slicer when they harden up?

    Annetto turned green?

I have hesitated to dirty BF’s coffee grinder but since this is edible I think I will try this, thanks!

    Annetto turned green?

Interesting! I wonder if it’s the type of oil makes it infuse better for you. I will try castor oil, I think.

    Annetto turned green?

That’s a great thread, thank you! I will have to try again with annatto. Looking at the thread you linked, I think besides the possible seawater factor, I probably could have infused the seeds for longer.... and the seawater lightening you mentioned actually clues me in to a difference in some...

    Annetto turned green?

Thanks for the insight and the compliment Dawni! It was 28 Oz of oil, and I used an infusion that looked fairly orange, about 3 or 4 Tbsp. I think you’re right about the orange spots, they are from turmeric. I definitely regret putting it in. I have had that same jar of turmeric produce nice...

    Annetto turned green?

I made my first embed soaps and I’m mostly pleased with the result. I made lavender embeds with PVC and I made two kinds for the base color/scents. I used madder root for the pink strawberry scent and annetto and a touch of turmeric for yellow lemon scent. The only thing is the yellow is avocado...

Help troubleshooting- bubbles in finished soap?

Thanks Dawni! They seem to be setting up nicely so far.

Help troubleshooting- bubbles in finished soap?

I just now finished up two batches of bars. I will give your method a whirl. It seems like it will work great. For the loaf, I just put cardboard over it and a towel. Rose FO loaf with mica swirls and rosemary grapefruit EO with turmeric/paprika and chlorella swirls. Fingers crossed! Thanks for...

Help troubleshooting- bubbles in finished soap?

oooh lenarenee, I have so much trouble with patience! It’s amazing my son made it to adulthood. :hairpulling: I kid, I kid. I will sort this out. I ordered some sodium lactate already, so hopefully I won’t have this particular problem again. Thanks again for the help!

Help troubleshooting- bubbles in finished soap?

Thanks shunt2011. I will give these “test batches” some time to set and cure and hopefully they will still be of some use. I think I’ll try something with lard next, there seem to be less complications with lard and PKO. :)

Help troubleshooting- bubbles in finished soap?

Lenarenee- thanks so much for the feedback. Now that you mention it, overheating would make sense. I didn’t see the excess oil on the surface until the bars had been in the oven a while, and I remembered seeing CPOP instructions but they were likely for a loaf, not little bars. There is no...

Help troubleshooting- bubbles in finished soap?

They aren’t zapping me. Does that mean all the lye has reacted already, meaning I cooked them too long? This is funny because I put this batch in the oven only because my first batch wouldn’t cure at all. I’m 0 for 2 here, folks. I did make some lovely lotion bars, though.

Help troubleshooting- bubbles in finished soap?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new to soaping and I’m so grateful for all the help I’ve gotten here already. Thank you all for being so generous with your experience and expertise. I made some melt and pour a few weeks ago, got hooked, and I’m now trying to figure out all things soapy. Yesterday, I...
