Why does my soap do this? Deeanna?

the oil cleansing method definitely does a good job at exfoliating my face. My skin is so nice and soft these days. But if I don't wash it for a few days in a row, I can feel the dead skin built up. I don't actually see the skin coming off my face though. I know what you mean from it coming off...

    Bad Lye?

NEVER put vinegar on Lye on the skin. Vinegar and Lye react together in an exothermic reaction, meaning it releases lots of heat. If you apply it to Lye burns you'll end up with both a chemical burn from the Lye and heat burn from the vinegar. Castile takes much longer to cure than the normal...

Where Does Everybody Purchase Their Lye From?

I priced both the Lye guy and ED and ED was cheaper for the amount I was buying. I have much more time than money, so for me I always price things everywhere before a purchase. I also always Google for coupons after I've settled on a place, and the end result was my Lye for 1.92 a pound...

My first shaving soap is a success!

Higher amounts of sodium lactate result in a softer/more flexible Soap and not a harder one. Usually 1-2 % is used for hardening, and 3% will soften. I believe Derpina bubbles used only 2% once though and still got a soft rubbery Soap as a result.

Where Does Everybody Purchase Their Lye From?

Essential Depot online, because the price. I also like the easy to handle 2lb bottles the Lye comes in.

Why does my soap do this? Deeanna?

What type of scars does she have? Depending on the type she should see a dermatologist. Fading scars is incredibly difficult. I have issues with scarring due to my genetic connective tissue disorder. I tried all the over the counter things before and they did nothing. Only thing that's ever...

    High cleansing numbers

Just wanted to say fragrances are also a migraine trigger for me. I can't stand the detergent isle at the store. Do you soap with fragrances? I'm wanting to get a respirator so I could use fragrance oils, and EOs that aren't scents I specifically like for sales. I was at whole foods today and...

Small containers for soap for travel

You could probably grease them and pop the soap out pretty easily. I have them and the sides are rather flexible for what it is. I've used them to pour cocoa butter into and then flexed the plastic to pop out once hardened.

    Trace

Its going to depend on the rest of the oils you have in the recipe as well, and whether or not they speed or slow trace.

    Hi, From Austin, TX

I like the soaping 101 videos on youtube. I'm very visual so they helped me SO much more than all of my reading prior to the videos. And so much more than so many videos I came across first that actually ended up confusing me and making me think things were so much harder than they are. When you...

    Conditioning

My soaps that I like are all 60-70 for conditioning. I made a soap recently that I was going for more cleansing and lather for my boyfriend and it was only a 53 conditioning. It was a little too cleansing and drying for me, I actually washed half of my body with it and the other half with a...

Adding water to HP mashed potatoes so it pours into my mold ?

No, other things can cause separation like certain ingredients or fragrance oils, overheating (can happen with ingredients that are heaters), etc.

Adding water to HP mashed potatoes so it pours into my mold ?

The purpose of bringing the soap to trace before cooking or pouring is to avoid separation. Separation can still happen, but is less likely when brought to trace. Sometimes for certain CP techniques its only brought to emulsion which gives a somewhat higher risk of later separation. If you never...

Question on Preparing a Soap Solution for pH Testing

I wouldn't compare commercial soap with handmade soap, the process used is incredibly different. If you're interested, I recommend reading this book which the ebook version is free (if you don't have a kindle you can download the free computer kindle software)...

Looking for a hair mousse recipe please

That kind of product from the blog is the opposite of what you'd want for volume. In her case what it does is define the curls allowing them to be curlier, and also weigh them down. If you applied it to your roots your hair would look greasy. And if you don't have naturally wavy or curly hair, I...

Bite marks on my soap, could it be rat?

I've had rats as pets, definitely look like rat bite marks to me.

newish soaper fundraiser, own recipe or anothers?

Thanks guys :) I'm feeling a bit better about using one of my own recipes now. Its not exactly the same as selling, but taking money for them is a far cry from giving the soap away. And I'd like to sell soap some day, so I also worry what if I screw them up and lose potential future customers...

Weird things on the INCI list

Not everyone has that hypocrisy ;) That hypocrisy is why I became a vegetarian. I didn't feel right picking and choosing what animals I thought were ok to eat, so I decided to stop eating all animals. Most people stare back at me with confusion though after asking why I'm a vegetarian and...

You know you're a crazy soap person when...

Hey now! I actually did that at my last shower. Only 2 recipes though, I did the left half with my basil soap and the right half with my avocado soap. No joke, I was telling my bf about it when I got out of the shower.
