    End of year prep

I've been doing this for soaping and for some other business activities in the past that I've done. Every receipt gets scanned into a .pdf. The filenames of the PDFs are 19001.PDF, 19002.PDF, 19003.PDF, etc. This filename then references a row in my Excel spreadhseet. So my Excel sheet may...

    Liquid Soap Preservatives again!

    Wow, thanks Zany. Great info.

    Liquid Soap Preservatives again!

Interesting idea here. I like to think of the base liquid soap that most people on this site make as equivalent to Dr. Bronner's. This is already diluted paste. Pure liquid soap. So I like to think of Dr Bronners about equal to after you've diluted your paste. But when you make a foamer...

    No Paste Method

I'll throw my old Chemistry brain around a bit. But if I remember correctly, by definition, PH is a measure of the concentration of the Hydrogen ion in an aqueous solution. So does something that is NOT an aqueous solution really even have a PH? In this case, your paste. Can it really even...

What can be stored in an unheated space?

I just acquired some extra storage space in my home. Unfortunately, it is not heated space, but it is protected from rain, snow, etc. It is almost like having a small attached garage that is not heated. The temperature here can get way below freezing in the winter even as low as 0 degrees...

    Liquid Soap Preservatives again!

Yeah, I'm just astonished by how many sellers take this risk. It's almost all of them! Did they not do the same research I did? Unfortunately, the seller with the preservative is at a severe disadvantage. Two tables at the local craft fair next to each other both selling LS. One person...

I don't know what to say

I'll be the 1st to go out on a limb here and disagree with the making small batches (that everyone recommends). If you can afford large batches, then why not? 1 pound soap is only about 3 or 4 bars, so that's a lot of work for a small amount of soap. Secondly, many people will tell you that...

    Liquid Soap Preservatives again!

Yes, I know. Beating this topic to death. How much could you possibly talk about liquid soap and preservatives? In this post, I'm referring to the liquid foamer bottles which have an even greater water content than the base liquid soap. I think most of the brains on this website have...

    White streaks in soap

Yeah, I feel like sometimes I over mix. I stick blended that batch really well to almost a thick trace. Then I stir it up a bit with the spatula before putting it in the mold. One of the links above suggested that insulating your soap may be a little too much if you use wooden molds. I'm...

    White streaks in soap

One more question. Does it always show up as a river? Can it every be more of a little white dot effect? Almost like little white polka dots.

    White streaks in soap

Ahh thanks. I always knew about Glycerin Rivers. I just always thought they only formed on top of the loaf and not within. Learn something new everyday!

    White streaks in soap

I keep getting these white streaks in my bar soaps. I'm not sure I can identify what is causing it and how to prevent it. They don't seem to go away, even after cure. I thought at first that maybe I wasn't mixing enough, but then I realized I'm guilty of stick blending my batches to death...

    Another question please.......

Yeah I just did some reading on this. You'd have to catch the steam and let it condense back into water to have distilled. Which @SeaSuds is obviously not doing. If you just boil it, the impurities would still remain in your pot.

    Another question please.......

That's a good question. I would let the Chemistry experts chime in. I've always thought that if you didn't have distilled water, you could just boil tap water and then you have distilled. But that leaves two or three open questions. How hot does tap water need to get (and for how long) to...

    My recent market analysis

Yeah, I'll keep this going even more. Now I know that this is not a labeling requirement, but I did notice that only about 1 out of 10 soapers puts a batch number on her/his label. You know where you tie the batch number back to a spreadsheet on your computer that has the batch numbers of all...

    Anyone sell essential oils?

I'm not talking about the MLM companies (not sure why I even mentioned it in my initial post) I'm talking about just purchasing the oil in bulk (1 pound or higher bottles) and then just splitting it up into smaller 1 ounce bottles and selling it direct and putting your own label on the bottle...

    One year soaping anniversary!

WOW! Congrats. You posted 1800 times in a year. That is a lot!

    Anyone sell essential oils?

I've noticed a lot of people sell oils from the MLM companies. But! One of my soap suppliers sells small 1 oz glass bottles. (so now I got the package) And the supplier I use for EOs (for my soap) has quality oils relatively inexpensive if you buy in bulk. So what is stopping me from buying a...

    My recent market analysis

Wow, I opened a can of worms here. So what it all boils down to is this: If you use a Mica powder with the following ingredients: "Fluorphlogopite, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide, Iron Oxide" And you decide to list out ingredients. Can you just say: "Mica" or do you have to break it out...

    My recent market analysis

Too bad everyone cannot be like that. Your 3 months is 8 weeks for me. I want to label my bars as 4.5 ounces and anything less goes into the discount pile. It's hard to compete and make a marketable listing when everyone else is flat out lying. The weight doesn't bother me as much as the...
