What if I don't cover my soap batches?

Funny one of the books I read when I first started learning said to cover it and do not even open it to peek. Just leave it covered til the next day!

What if I don't cover my soap batches?

Thanks, think I may try it. I recently changed my recipe and I'm starting to get a little bit of cracking on top. In previous posts of mine several people suggested overheating so I took all insulation away except the wooden top. Now maybe I'll try taking away the wooden top.

What if I don't cover my soap batches?

I've been doing this for a while now and have done tons of batches. But I still have never tried leaving a batch uncovered. I use wooden molds that I built out of 3/4 inch birch plywood and I have tops that I use to cover them with. Every batch I have ever done I have covered. I can...

    Investing in Essential Oils

I second this! This is almost my exact set of essentials. I keep every one of the above plus Cedarwood, Anise, Basil, and Cinnamon Leaf.

    Problems scenting Liquid Soap

Thanks Zany. I've never used this calculator before but it's a little different than some of the others that I have been using. For example if you look at the MMS calculator for peppermint EO and an 8oz bottle of liquid soap you get .08 ounces for strong (this is 1%). Put the same parameters...

    Problems scenting Liquid Soap

I'm having major issues when I try to scent my liquid soap. Just about every oil I use, fragrance or essential causes if to thicken quickly and become an unpleasant jelly. PS20 and PS80 both made it worse. I am referring to my soap that I have left after I have diluted my soap paste. It's a...

Q on foaming bottles and LS

I make liquid soap similar to some of the methods that you will find floating around on this site. I try to use exactly enough water to dilute all the paste. At the end I'm only putting about 1 ounce in at a time. When I get to the point where all the paste is dissolved, I like to think of...

Thickening liquid soap with fragrance oils and essentials

Mods, you can delete this post. I can't delete a post. Thanks I've just realized that my thickened product is somewhat unpleasant to the point it is almost like jelly. Therefore making this topic somewhat irrelevant.

Thickening liquid soap with fragrance oils and essentials

I have some fragrance oils and essentials that will almost instantly thicken my liquid soap when I add it. I've been somewhat frustrated by this lately since I did not want my fragrances to thicken my soap (although the soap is not very thin to start). I want to thicken my LS, but I felt like...

Melting Concerns (Soap left in truck)

@shunt2011 With ours they would fit, but it's some of the peaks in the center that would not.

Melting Concerns (Soap left in truck)

No, the one day is not at the market. We wanted to visit my parents on the way to the market since their house is on the way.

Melting Concerns (Soap left in truck)

@shunt2011 I love the baseball card box idea, but my bars are a little too big for those boxes. I would have to make all new molds or change the size of my bars in order to be able to use them.

Melting Concerns (Soap left in truck)

Thanks! I guess my only option then is to carry everything in the house for the two nights. Lots of extra loading/unloading, but there are 3 of us so maybe won't be too bad.

Melting Concerns (Soap left in truck)

No, I don't have a cooler large enough. Thanks for the suggestion.

Melting Concerns (Soap left in truck)

There is an upcoming farmer's market where we want to set up shop. Due to some logistical reasons, if we do this market, we would have to leave our soap in my truck overnight and during an entire day, and then overnight again. The soap would be in my truck for 2 nights and 1 day. It would be...

    Essential Oils Safe Usage Rates

Are there any official safe usage rates out there for essential oils? There are IFRA sheets for all the fragrance oils that I use, but seems like none for essentials. For the essentials that I use, I currently just go out to the supplier's website and use the calculator. But I'm thinking...

    Scenting Concentrated vs Foamers

Thanks again. My big concern was having the 8 ounce concentrated bottle having more scent than is safe. For example, if I'm working with a scent that is 2% IFRA max and I'm using it at 1% in my foamers. Well now in my concentrate, I am using it at 4% which exceeds the 2% IFRA max. Then I...

    Scenting Concentrated vs Foamers

First off, thanks for the reply! I don't want to get this into a preservative conversation, so let's just talk about scent. I think what you are saying though is that what I want to do just can't be done. I don't have 32 ounce bottles. But I have lots of 8 oz bottles. And I may be even...

    Scenting Concentrated vs Foamers

I have somewhat of a dilemma. I know a lot of people here when they make liquid soap, they store the paste and then dilute it when they need it. I chose not to do it that way. I dilute the paste into liquid soap and store it in jugs unscented with no preservative until I need it. I do it...

Does anyone list their ingredients properly?

That is my understanding thus far. My confusion always came after you made the decision to list ingredients. I have always known and it's common knowledge I think that listing ingredients on soap in the U.S. is optional. No one is arguing this. But if you decide to list ingredients (even...
