    Oat milk in soap making

The recipe I was using calls for 14.82 ounces of water and 5.1 grams of lye.

I get you! Thanks! I'll give that a go next time.

    Oat milk in soap making

I used 1 cup of oats to roughly 3 cups of water. I didn't have any cheese cloth, but I did use a very fine mesh bag which I squeezed it through which removed about 99% of all the smaller bits. So you just add the gloopy mess to the oils and blend it together? Mine was so thick that not even...

    Oat milk in soap making

Ok, so today I tried making it - and I'm guessing I did something wrong because as soon as I added the lye to the oat milk, I ended up with an unusable gloopy mess which I had to bin. Should I be adding the lye to the oils, and then waiting for it to cool before adding the oat milk?

    Oat milk in soap making

When you say use it as water content, would this be as a partial substitute to water or completely as a replacement? Or either?

    Oat milk in soap making

Hello all, I'm thinking of making a soap with some oat milk incorporated, and I have 2 questions: 1) Can I use store bought oat milk, or would I need to make my own? 2) Given it is really just oat infused water, does this count towards my water content - or do I create the recipe as if this...

    Emulsifier Question

I've investigated it and it seems like it only works with borax as per the original post. I think I'll just keep my beeswax aside for something else. Thanks. I do actually have a list of about 220 products and their INCI names that I've been compiling; I just can't remember them all off the...

    Emulsifier Question

I was quite surprised to read either was an emulsifier myself... although I'm thinking of experimenting just to see if there is a way I can actually make it work (I'm one of those curious types who just has to see if it can be done). ;) In the UK, I can't find anything that is specifically...

    Emulsifier Question

So, when I made my lotion, I used the afore mentioned emulsifier with SLS + Cetyl Alcohol Beads. Considering it was the first time I'd made lotion, it wasn't too bad. I found myself having to water it down with some distilled water because it was too thick - but otherwise it was ok. It was...

    Emulsifier Question

Oh, I understand how they work. I have some stearic acid too, but I've just started exploring making lotions and creams. Until now I've really only made things like bath bombs and bubble bars and some butter based ones, this is all a bit new to me. Thanks for the link, I'll go take a look. :)

    Emulsifier Question

Hi Megan, So, the article where I saw BW/CW referred to as 'natural' emulsifiers is this one: Natural Emulsifiers for Homemade Lotions The emulsifying wax in question is this one: Emulsifying Wax I've looked for Polawax and BTMS-50 in the UK, but I can't seem to find it very easily... I don't...

    Emulsifier Question

Hi guys, Obviously I know what emulsifying wax is, but the brand that I've come across here contains SLS, which isn't technically problem, but if I use the lotion I've made right after I've washed my hands and they're not quite dry, then it tends to work into a bit of a lather and I have to...

    Preventing 'bleaching'

Thanks. I'll try it! I've actually never heard of a UV inhibitor in soap making, so I'll investigate it. Right now we're just messing around an experimenting with new techniques and products to go on a blog so we can decide what we do and don't like - so it's not important to get it 'picture...

    Preventing 'bleaching'

This faded astonishingly quickly... like, within a couple of days. This was melt and pour. Do you think CP over M&P makes a difference? It was these ones. I thought I'd give them a try: Pour Soap Dye/Soap Melt Dye/Pour Making Bath Bomb Bath Salt Soap Coloring Water Based Dyes Body Scrubs and...

    Preventing 'bleaching'

Hello all, I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on the 'best' dyes/pigments to use in soap making to prevent the soaps 'bleaching' when out on display? Or any tips and techniques for helping prevent this? I admit that the ones I am using at the minute are dirty cheap ones, so...

    Question re bath bombs

Thanks, I might have a try with that one. The only thing that puts me off is witch hazel - I can't stand the smell of the stuff... unless it comes in odourless form these days? I've just tried a slightly altered recipe in which I have replaced 1 tablespoon of glycerine for 2 teaspoons of...

    Question re bath bombs

I think I am going to try a batch tonight using just vitamin e and sweet almond oil. I don't think either of those are humectants?

    Question re bath bombs

Oh, I thought maybe there was something about the chemical reaction that I was missing. They don't go crazy, but they fizz a decent amount. I'm reluctant to start putting anything water based (including alcohol) back in to the mix as it's been a disaster every time. A mate who makes them for...

    Question re bath bombs

Out of curiosity, why do you say not enough baking soda? They fizz perfectly well.

    Question re bath bombs

Hello all, I hope everyone is well. I was just wondering if anyone might have any insight in to this: I finally perfected my bath bomb recipe (or so I thought, recipe below), however, I recently had an issue whereby one of the bath bombs I had made and was drying suddenly expanded slightly and...
