Can't wrap my head around labeling

bkb, actually it IS as difficult as you're making it! Marie Gale literally wrote the book on soap and cosmetic labeling, and she has a website that can help, but just know that it isn't you...it's complicated even when you have the book and read it and re-read it, and highlight it, and make post...

human bed sores vs guinea pig sores

I worked for many years on the spinal cord injury unit of a hospital. Most of our patients were paraplegics and quadriplegics. Because of their limited mobility, bed sores/pressure sores are a constant threat. Bed sores/pressure sores usually occur over the bony prominences, like hip bones...

    The problem with old pets

It's really tricky knowing the right thing to do. I always fed my cats dry food because I heard it was better for their teeth. But when my female cat developed kidney disease, I switched both of them to canned, because the vet said the increased moisture would be beneficial. I lost her anyway...

    Bread proofer for gel phase

Here are my thoughts on using a bread proofer. For me, the most important thing about CPOPing soap, is that we're trying to gently encourage gel all the way to the edges, not to cook the soap. Too much heat can cause all kinds of problems. You want just enough, which is the tricky part. I CPOP...

How to deal with cat hair and curing soap

I've always cured my soaps in a cabinet with trays that slide in and out. I've always had cats and or dogs, and although they did not hang out in the craft room, their hair can float just about anywhere. When I wrap soap for sale, I always do it with glasses on, and under a bright, gooseneck...

    First order of FO arrived!

Yikes, lenarenee...that's hard for me to imagine. Like IL mentioned, it's strong oob, strong once soaped, stays strone, and it's one of the few FOs, that really lingers on my skin after I wash with it. I really have no explanation for your results. Have you asked other people if they can smell...

    First order of FO arrived!

I'm only familiar with two of those. BB's OMH is the one that I've used for years. It has always been one of my best sellers. As far as smelling like either oatmeal, milk or honey, well, you could probably argue that point. Personally, I smell almond, but it's a popular fragrance that many...

    Eagles in the snow

Yes, the last time I saw them, they were sitting next to each other just like in the beginning shot of the youtube video you posted. It was almost like they knew that soon, they'd be off on their own, and were enjoying spending some time together before saying goodbye. I love this website so...

    Cleanup

My biggest clean up challenge is not from spills, but from what I call soap "crumbs". Little tiny bits of soap seem to find their way onto my floor, maybe from when I cut loaves, or brush off their edges, I'm not sure, but there seem to be plenty of them. And they're tiny, and I don't see them...

    Faded Memories

Fragrances have a way of stirring up memories from long ago. Looking at the letter to your grandmother, and the beautiful handwriting made me think that the most loving text will never compare to a handwritten love letter. How fortunate you are to have those, they're really a treasure!

Is Pyrex all right for one use?

Back when I first started making soap, around 10 years ago, I had seen it recommended somewhere to use Pyrex for mixing lye, so I did. Soon after, definitely not "hundreds of batches" later, I noticed that the glass looked cloudy. Luckily, I read that this etching is caused by the lye, and...

    I think I'm done

Hello Charmed! Honestly, I wasn't meaning to discourage anyone, just to be realistic. I didn't start selling soap because I thought I'd make a lot of money. I had always loved going to craft fairs and thought it would be fun to be on the selling side for a change, and make some extra money. But...

    How have your ideals changed?

My goals really haven't changed much. I got into soapmaking because I was using Dove, and my skin was dry and flakey no matter how much moisturizer I used. A friend gave me a bar of olive oil soap and it changed everything. Until then, I didn't know how really good soap could be. So my goal was...
