How were this years shows for everyone?

It's sad for us soapmakers, but I've always noticed that food items seem to do very well at craft fairs. Best of luck to you!

    Consistant bar sizes

The way I understand it, the only claim you can safely make about soap is that it gets you clean. That's it, plain and simple.

Feedback on solid conditioner bar recipe

neon, if you search for the thread on frizzy hair, Dee Anna's recipe is there. I've tried it, it's both easy and really nice! And it doesn't have a zillion ingredients, so that adds to the appeal.

    Oatmeal

In a blind test that I read about, oatmeal was one of the ingredients that people reacted positively to, not knowing what it was, but they preferred the soap with it, over the one without. So whatever it does, people seem to like it.

    When do you add FO?

I add my FO to the oils before lye, but as others have mentioned, its not a question of right or wrong, but more of preference. Try it both ways and see which works for you. I feel like I have better control doing it that way. If I have the FO mixed in with the oils, and add the lye and see it...

    Scent trends

As you can see from conflicting reports above, fragrance preferences can also be regional. They're also very subjective. What makes one person go, "Ahhhh!", can make another go, "Ewww!" That being said, my best sellers were always these three from BB...OMH, Energy and lavender.

    Loaf Molds and Cutters

I converted to silicone molds after I tried my first one, many years ago. Now, they're much more affordable, and I always hated folding freezer paper, so it was an easy choice for me. I bought a multi bar cutter, and yes, it was expensive, when I started selling, so that my bars would be...

    Christmas is Tight This Year

That sounds like a wonderful program. Some things have definitely changed for the better. I remember my mother gave me a pamphlet, I can still see the title on the cover..."Crossing the Threshold". So dramatic. I would NEVER have mentioned my period to my father. I think we both would have been...

    The Christmas Box

My best friend started a tradition between the two of us years ago. Ours is not a box, but a silver ball that's hinged, and opens up so that you can put something inside. It's about three inches in diameter. It doesn't matter what we put inside it, it just has to be able to fit. Over the years...

    Christmas is Tight This Year

Oh Dee, I remember that "system" only too well! I thought I had forgotten, but your mention of it brought it screeching back to the front of my brain, no matter how hard I may try to shove it back. It's one of those things we forget when we talk about the good old days! :wtf::crazy::smallno:

How long to insulate soap slabs

If you're concerned about complete gel, it's hard to say, because so many things affect gel, like your recipe, the temp you soap at, and the volume of your mold. In a slab mold, if the layer is thin, it can be difficult to get it to gel, but if it's deep, the mass is greater, and it should gel...

Using Cricut to make soap molds?!

Thanks dibbles! I'm having lots of fun discovering all the Cricut can do. :) The problem would be in getting the stencil material to stay on the bottom of the mold when you pour the soap. He got around that problem by setting the mold on top of a metal pan so that the magnetic sheets pull...

Using Cricut to make soap molds?!

It's an interesting idea though, isn't it? You'd need something thick enough to give the impression dimension, so that's one of the reasons he uses the magnetic sheet, but the other reason is that he uses a metal pan under the silicone mold, so that the magnetic sheet stays on the bottom of the...

Using Cricut to make soap molds?!

Having recently gotten a Cricut, I've been experimenting like crazy, mostly with holiday related things like this winter village. So I was quite surprised this morning to see a Youtube video titled, "Soap molds with Cricut". I'm guessing it's melt and pour, although it doesn't look it to me, but...

    Expert help Please!

I think any way you can provide gentle heat should work.

    Expert help Please!

As far as CPOP goes, you'll find many different ideas about how to do it, but back when I learned the process it involved not forcing, but gently encouraging the soap to gel all the way to the edges. Forcing gel, by adding to much heat can result in all kinds of problems. This is the method I...

Should I use a heating pad?

There are a lot of variables involved here, air temp, your recipe, the volume of the mold. All of these affect how the soap goes through gel phase, so it may take a little trial and error on your part to see what works. Depending on the size and shape mold you're using, another option might be a...

    Molds

I started off with a homemade wooden box that I lined with freezer paper. Once I got my first silicone mold, I never looked back. But as mentioned above, it's about what YOU like, and what works best for you.

Am I crazy to think this could be a soap mold?

And it's one of those things that only another soapmaker won't roll their eyes at your for! :) Yes, it is silicone and very flexible. Baseball card storage boxes are the perfect size for regular bars, unless you do fancy tops.
