    Yet another batch...

The batch seems to have come out really well. No complaints. The house smells like eucalyptus. Here are some pictures:

    Making scent stick to skin

Make using the soap the last thing you do in the shower. What I do is shampoo, then shave, then soap up, then rinse quickly. Don't linger in the rinse cycle. I've noticed it also tend to depend on the soap. Heavy scents (like patchouli) tend to stick around more than the delicate ones.

    Yet another batch...

Made Eucalyptus tonight. ITP swirl. Greyish blue in a bed of white. The grey kind of let me down, though. Still doing my old standard recipe til I get rid of the palm. I still have quite a bit left and I only use 341 grams in a recipe. Here is a pic shortly after the pour:

    Yet again...

Made another batch a couple of nights ago. Cut it this morning. Lavender Mint from Island Escape in Newfoundland, Canada. An In The Pot swirl with a white pot base and violet and green accents. Seems to have come out really well. The mint is kind of overpowering the lavender though. I was...

So much for the Profit Margin

@Ford Nice looking soap bars, Ford! Great photography too! Guess I could ask my patrons: "Which do you want, pretty soap? (Planed and beveled?) Or MORE soap? (Unplaned and unbeveled?)" Anyway, it is a moot point for me at this point. I have the buffer and I'll be using that for a while...

So much for the Profit Margin

@AliOop Funny you should notice that, Ali! From the very beginning, in my mind I always associated soap planers with badly clogged planer slots and badly gouged soap bars. And mounds and mounds of soap shreds. I've never considered buying one. Do they actually work well?

So much for the Profit Margin

@ResolvableOwl Before and after pic: It takes less than a minute to buff the soda ash off and then rub off the soap crumbs with a dish cloth. 40 bars = 40 minutes. (I suppose I'll have to add that into labor/hour cost. More profit margin wiped out!)

So much for the Profit Margin

@Ford No build up on the wheel yet, but I am just starting. It does spray soap and soda ash particles behind it, hence the towel you can see in the picture. The directions did say to use something called a "rake" to clean it. As I was getting used to it, the wheel did "grab" a bar of soap...

So much for the Profit Margin

I got this on sale at a local auto parts store. I'm going to use it to polish my bars. So far it has been great at removing soda ash. (I know... it's ridiculous. You don't have to tell me.)

When's a good time to test it for ZAP?

    Oatmeal, Milk and Honey recipe?

Hi all! Cut the OMH batch last night. Seems to have come out well. Below are some pictures. Pardon all the soap "crumbs". I want them to harden up a little before I start polishing them. As they cure and harden more, I will keep you posted. Thanks for all the help on this one!

    Oatmeal, Milk and Honey recipe?

@ResolvableOwl The last batch I made with that 78% pure lye, I just used it straight with no adjustments or allowances. It took forever to trace, but it finally did reach a thick trace. For days afterwards it was quite oily, soft and sticky. Still, it could hold its shape enough to be cut...

    Oatmeal, Milk and Honey recipe?

Well, I just made a batch of OMH using AliOop's recipe. (Thanks!) For coloring, I used dibbles' suggestion of reserving part of the batch so that it is not exposed to the OMH scent. Seems to have worked well. I did an ITP swirl. I used my old lye which is 78% pure (using the purity...

    Oatmeal, Milk and Honey recipe?

Do you find that your customers tend to avoid brown soap? I haven't had a lot of experience in the matter, but it seems I am experiencing that. Maybe?

    Oatmeal, Milk and Honey recipe?

An interesting idea! Thinking outside the box! I have a whole bottle of OMH fo, though. :-/

    Oatmeal, Milk and Honey recipe?

@AliOop Is the OMH FO likely to produce a brown soap?

    Oatmeal, Milk and Honey recipe?

Just put in an order for powdered goats milk and honey. A OMH batch is in the near future! Thanks so much for the advice!
