My first shaving soap is a success!

I've read it through fully just once - had to take a lunch break LOL - but I revisit it often and I agree that there is a wealth of information in this thread and anyone interested in making shaving soap needs to read it top to bottom.

    Fragrance oils

Nature's Garden is my favorite because of their reasonable prices, extensive selection, and pretty good notes on FO behavior in soap. I also buy some from a local soap supply store (arizona soap supply) but that probably doesn't help you much. :)

What soapy thing have you done today?

I think they are very, very pretty! Great job

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have no suggestions on the technique having never tried it myself - I just want to clap for those soaps! SO pretty! Um .. all I see is perfection. :) I'm one week from a work trip out of state. Two weeks from closing on my house, and then the moving starts. So the only soapy thing I have...

    Best orange scent combo?

I'll add my vote to orange and patchouli. But I'm a lavender lover so I have to say that would be my first choice. :) You could also try it with an evergreen scent like cypress or a spicier scent like cardamom.

What soapy thing have you done today?

It didn't go well? Or it didn't harden up? Report please! Today I did a lather test for a bastille soap that I made three weeks ago: 82% olive oil, 15% coconut oil, 3% castor, and a 5% superfat. Scented with essential oil blend that is skin friendly. I *think* I used rice milk for half the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I think the purple soaps look very pretty :) I haven't posted any pics of my soaps because everything I made recently has all been one color soaps. I needed a confidence boost lol and my attempts at swirls had me frustrated. I did do a batch with little cactus embeds a few weeks ago that...

Future primitive soap co on Youtube

This recipe is *very* close to my basic recipe (I use a little less coconut oil, and a little more olive) and I agree - it is slow moving, inexpensive, and makes a very nice bar. I get a boost in lather by using a milk for 1/2 the water. @Soulboy1973 - if you start with this recipe you can...

The elusive perfect bar of soap

Edited because I have two favorites: 1) Olive, lard, coconut, and castor, with milk (all different kinds) for 1/2 the water. I was enamored with tallow for a while, but I have recently converted my loyalty to lard. 2) Olive, lard, coconut, cocoa butter, almond oil, castor with milk for 1/2...

First two soaps-One success and one lesson learned

Congrats on your first two soaps! When I first started making soap I often overdid it on additives and found that I couldn't troubleshoot the recipe very easily because I was never sure what was causing whatever issues I had. Since you had success with one recipe, why not stick with that as a...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Looks great! :) Very pretty top! That scent sounds like my "style" - hopefully it doesn't discolor too much.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I spent the entire day shrink wrapping soap (I left an opening to breathe) while binge watching Future Primitive Soap on Youtube. She is a HOOT! And lovely soaps too. I feel inspired, but there will be no soap making for a while. Reason 1) as I took inventory while wrapping soap and...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have never watched FuturePrimitive ... I am going to have to put that channel on my watch list! I can't wait to hear about your next swirling adventures! If you haven't done a chopstick swirl yet - give it a try. It's easy and I think the tapered end makes a wispy tip and just might give you...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Evesgardensoaps on youtube. She does some very pretty and very wispy swirls in her soaps. I'm sure there are others but that is the one I thought of right away. ETA: I would think the gauge of the tool you use to swirl will have an impact on how wispy the swirls are. Thick tool = thicker...

    First try at salt bars

My salt bars that are a month or so old are starting to look a bit speckly and have a slight texture (I used 75% of oil weight for salt). Can you brush the salt off or is it stuck to the surface? If it is stuck in the soap, it will probably just dissolve the first time they get used. Have you...

What soapy thing have you done today?

In my book it does. :) I am thinking about salt soaps so that is my soapy thing today. I tested mine and love love love them - and they are only a month old. I want to make more but am probably not going to be able to do much soapy stuff besides thinking because I have to start getting ready to...

Long time lurker stepping into the light. :D

Welcome! I am fairly new to the forum and to soap making (less than two years). Lots of great people here, and a wealth of information. I hope you chime in often!

What soapy thing have you done today?

Love the intense green. I love the color! Olive green, olive drab, whatever you want to call it - it's a favorite of mine.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I think you should do them all. :) They all sound great! Yesterday, instead of pouring my excess soap batter into individual molds, I simply put the lid on the containers and left them till today for cleanup. I normally clean up immediately, but yesterday I just could not deal. So today I...
