    Struggling with activated charcoal

For HP, I noticed it makes the batter gooey-er. What's the total weight of your recipe? 2 tsp might not sound like much but if it's a half pound recipe it is... Personally I dump the charcoal right into the oils and mix, no special handling.

What to do with those ugly end bits?

I bought a cutter and don't have end cuts any more :). Any leftover batter due to miscalculations etc goes into a small mold for me use or to give away, and any bad bars/pot scrapings/etc is in a bucket awaiting rebatching into confetti scrap soap .

    Fall & Holiday Scents

Try a 10x or a 5x folded orange although even those tend to dissappear...

    Fall & Holiday Scents

I'm not making any seasonal scents because they end up in the "oops"(misfits) bucket too much. However, I may do a limited run in the spring to clear out some florals I have. I am thinking of doing a "featured scent" of the month, then I can just highlight something that could be considered...

    Preparing for the Holidays

To answer the "how do you get ready" part...I'm starting next month. It's just too hot in my soaping area (garage) to do my HP restock batches, so I've been doing small experiments/molds inside to keep the "itch" down. After last year, I realized this would happen so I had made plenty of stock...

Adding your Biz name on your Canopy tent ?

Don't use spraypaint on your canopy-it'll run and bleed and look awful. It'll look like you used spraypaint and stencils! When I was selling bonsai (anyone want one? still have some!) I had a 6 inch high paper banner made and laminated that I would then binderclip across the front of the canopy...

    Only SIX fragrances??

That sign would be hilarious! Don't Eat The Soap! Chiming in with I also do $6 each or 4/$20. The regulars get 4 + and the one timers do the one or two bars deal from what I see LOL

    Preparing for the Holidays

To piggyback off what penelopejane said, if you had a small spa, massage (legit) place, tourist trap, etc they might be interested in a small display of your stuff. I got started selling when a friend opened up a store and asked if I wanted a spot-so make sure your friends know what you make...

    Christmas Soap List!

I would go with melt and pour bases, and then next year learn cold process/hot process soapmaking. Much easier in the beginning because all you need to worry about is scent and color! I second the "add stuff" thought...even the $1 type stores have a great selection of bath stuff you can add to...

    Smelly lard soap

It also seems to depend on your lard brand

What soapy thing have you done today?

Did three small 100% CO oil batches testing out some fragrances and making bars to practice stamping on...whew the ones in the small mold are gelling! I have to remember to do reviews because that FO is a huge heater!

How long to cook hot process soap?

I cooked too long for a while until I realized it....now I just cook until vaseline stage (like obsidian). Depending on the receipe, that's 20 min to an hour.. if I cook on high it volcanoes, which is fine if I'm there but if there's a chance I might step off for a second I'll cook longer on...

    Dead Sea Mud Powder?

Would you need to add a preservative to the bucket of dead sea mud from amazon? I don't see where it has anything?

    Recommendation for good notebook

    JennLee, what is the brand?

What soapy mistake have you made today?

Made up a mini 1 lb batch for a new mold...all proud of myself because I was done and cleaned up in 15 minutes. Yea....until I look over and see my bottle of FO on the counter right next to the mold...full. *sigh*. Luckily it was CP and I had poured at light trace and the FO tends to slow trace...

    Time Saving Techniques Requested

I mix my lye first and set it outside to finish clearing. Once the oils are mixed and melted, I dump the lye water in-no extra waiting. Honestly, I haven't checked temperatures in years! The only time I will is if a batch gives me an issue, I'll redo it and then check...but it's usually the FO...

    Recommendation for good notebook

Go to Staples (if you have one) and look at the not on sale notebooks. They have thicker paper and lay flat :)

Homemade cold process soap and plumbing

When I do CP , I do the wipe it all out method then wash with lots of dawn. For HP, I just add water and viola soap! LOL FYI, for your septic tank, don't put any of the stuff you buy on the shelves in it-my septic inspector said that only builds up sludge. Instead, once a month, put one packet...

    Only SIX fragrances??

I agree that jelly and soap are two completely different markets! I'll try any strawberry jelly but I'm a little chicken of a mango chili orange mint...LOL
