Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

Broke 3 cutter wires, but It was because they were frozen. I’m hoping they will clear up a bit more. This was cold process!

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

Isn’t M&P the stuff you buy that’s already soap? This started off like all CP as oils and lye in my soap pot.

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

No M&P in this soap...all from scratch. But I am second-guessing my decision to put it in the freezer.

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

It’s nothing to be scared of. Just no open flames and dilute it in your glycerine asap—don’t leave it sitting around uncovered. My planned method is 1) open bottle 2) pour in a measuring cup 3) add straight to the soap at trace 4) drink a shot 5) repeat step 4 every 5 minutes as necessary to...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I find no discoloration with CM, and I don’t slush or freeze it. I use coconut for 100% of the liquid above my 50/50 lye/water masterbatch.

    Oil-to-mold calculations for translucent soap

One more question. I don’t have any liquid lab colorants. Can I use mica in translucent recipes? If so, can I just disperse it into the solvents?

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

I get the idea you could use any combination of solvents including sugar syrup, but I read that those with higher sugar-syrup content tend to sweat and crystalize.

Yes, Everclear 190 proof. I hear they make an “Everclear 150” but I had no problem finding 190.

    Charcoal - Tea Tree Soap

Here we go 1 week later...Nice, creamy white lather. Slight staining if applied to a white clothing applied directly, but what would anyone really expect from charcoal? I do find it a bit drying at this stage—not in a bad way, but I don’t feel any oil left on my face after using. For folks with...

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

Hi Steph. It just so happens I’ve been researching this subject and plan to attempt my first batch tomorrow. In essence, translucent soap is soap that has been suspended in solvents (sugar, glycerine and alcohol are most common). The kinds of oils used are pretty common but in different ratios...

    Oil-to-mold calculations for translucent soap

I'm hoping to work on my first translucent bars tomorrow. The recipe I'm adapting calls for a 1 to 2 ratio of oils to solvents. It's a very interesting "quick" method from lovinsoap.com that the author calls "hot cold-process."...
