    Hello from coastal Virginia

That's the one. Does it not look like a night sky with moon rising over the mountains to you? It's beautiful. As for pink, not my thing either...I don't care for "rose" or "bubble gum" fragrances, so I never know what to pair with it.

    Favorite soap for personal use?

I can't disagree with GM and creaminess, but it's not enough difference over CM to make it worth the extra hassle for me personally. I can get really white soap from CM where goat's milk wants to go tan, and then there's the freezing the GM and preventing partial gel. I know some of y'all have...

    I have a confession .....

I guess I should have read that "Just kidding" part before making my last batch. Dr. says I'll be on solid food in no time.

    I have a confession .....

I often find if I start with a couple of martinis, I don't even need to make soap that day. ;)

    Food coloring

Many thanks. I was talking to a vendor this past weekend who was selling bentonite clay at the framer's market. He was telling me how it treats everything from herpes to cancer, so of course I bought some (um...not because I have either of those particular conditions, but) just because I...

    I have a confession .....

I'm just the opposite...I tend to split it too early (then pray it doesn't separate) because I'm afraid I won't have enough time to work with it.

    Hello from coastal Virginia

Yeah, yeah, yeah...pink blah, blah... but HOW did you get that starry horizon in the soap next to it?????? (I'm kidding. I love the rose clay soap, but still, that night sky... Please share you technique).

What soapy thing have you done today?

That's really interesting. Maybe it's because we got the soaps at a "spa" resort, (could that sound more snooty?) so our expectations were high, but we both loved them. My wife was crazy excited that I got them. I got them for $11, so I have no doubt they will pay for themselves. I can...

    Food coloring

I have tons of micas, and yes they are beautiful, but the particles become suspended in the soap making it cloudier than liquid colorants (so I’ve read). I could order a liquid colorant, but wouldn’t have a ton of other uses for it. I thought soap was regulated by U.S. Product Safety...

What soapy thing have you done today?

These arrived today To be honest, I’m not so keen on individual soap molds, butI used these “massage soaps” a couple of years at a resort and Janice and I both loved them. I think many people in my life will enjoy using them as well. Can’t wait to rev up the old stick blender and get to...

can you color transparent soap with food coloring without staining towels and skin?

Here’s the cut pics. I’ll upload a photo to the gallery once they are prettied-up a bit. Definitely a technique I’ll use again. They kinda remind me of Mexican pottery.

    I have a confession .....

OK, my new confession is that I'd secretly like to see a video of your confession.

    Overwhelmed

Aw, thank you Cee. It was a great day for me too. Janice had to work, so I piddled around the house until she got home, then we Skyped with the kids, drank some great wine and caught up with them in Memphis and NYC. Oh, and I smoked a huge chunk of meat that would have made the Flintstones...

This is what happens when they leave me alone in the house on Father’s Day... ..

    Overwhelmed

Technically, this was yesterday, but I redeemed about 30 bars of soap from the past year or so that I had considered “less-than’s” using my plane and bevel. I got some beautiful bars out of it. I know I’ve posted a couple of times about this lately, but it truly is a great piece of equipment...

What soapy thing have you done today?

So, I have this idea about doing a pull-through with a grid of skewers or chopsticks strung totether like ### connected by strings or florist wire at the intersections. Wondering if it might produce a sort of plaid pattern. Is that moronical?

Rebatch of shards and trimmings. There's something cathartic about using up all those bags of trimmings. I used this in the shower this a.m.... it lathered great. I didn't add any new color or fragrance, and I kinda like it. It smells like Ivory soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Shave Soap #2. Wet shaving really has changed my life. I used my traditional shave cream while traveling this week and really missed that super clean feeling. Here’s my recipe from the batch I made today. I owe several of these as Father’s Day gifts. It’s 60/40 KOH/NaOH in HP. Critique...
