Adjustable multi wire soap log cutter - any interest? Need design suggestions

I didn't read the instructions as I don't want anyone to claim that I copied. As for price, I'll do some calculations and see what I can come up with. With it being adjustable here is what you will need to do for each wire length. 1. loosen tension screw 2. Loosen pivot side slide...

Stearic Acid disaster when making shave soap.

Well I'm glad I decided to try a small recipe!! I've read in most shaving soap threads that many people use 50% stearic acid, and the rest varies depending upon person. Some to a 50/50 stearic/coconut. My recipe was for 80g oil - 120g final weight: 40% Stearic Acid 32 grams 25% Coconut Oil...

Tallows- Beef, Bear, Deer, Goat, Sheep & Pig (lard) - Best Uses

I noticed some of these have higher cleaning properties but I'm interested in a smooth soft stable lather that is conditioning. Does anyone have any suggestions for good or unique uses for each one? Do they have any specific characteristics that lend themselves to an exceptional quality...

Adjustable multi wire soap log cutter - any interest? Need design suggestions

I need a project and I'm wondering if there is any interest in a wire cutter that has adjustable positioning's for each wire. How many wires can vary depending upon the size of the cutter desired. I was planning on making the spacing for the cutters 1/4" minimum but ideally 1/8" apart. I'm...

    Lye?

The Lye is fine. Most lye isn't 100% pure and I'll be 98% is very close to food grade. As far as a recipe, you need to tell us what you want the soap for and who is using it (their skin type/needs) Just remember that Sunflower, Olive and Lard have ZERO cleansing properties while Coconut...

Powder coloring pigments - oxides mainly

I've been looking at various oxides and powder pigments which don't seem to be labeled as to what they are such as ultramarine blue. I've found that a lot of the colors are based on iron oxides and I know cobalt makes a blue and copper possibly makes a blue oxide. Does anyone know what...

Looking to re-rebatch some hp soap..but how?

Grate the soap as fine as possible. If no crok-pot is available I have had success with hot water added to the gratings. If you have 16 oz of soap I would try starting out with 4 oz grated and 4 oz distilled boiling water. Mix the two and wisk. Add 4oz of gratings at a time and microwave on...

Titanium Dioxide - what are your thoughts?

Both TiO2 and ZnO are used as whitening in foods and cosmetics, most notably sunscreens as both offer some sort of UV protection from what I have read. I would think that the amount used in soap is much less of an issue than that used in things such as sunscreen and lotions. Unless you are...

    Freezing to preserve bars

Is there anything to be gained by freezing bars after they cure so they don't go rancid if soft oils were used for the reccipe? Are there any downsides?

Adding older soaps (shaved or powdered) to fresh batch at trace?

Thanks for replying! As far as the 1:2 (old to new) is this a strict rule and if so why? My reason for asking is b/c if I wanted 2 color soap, "confetti" style, but of the same recipe just different colors, would a 1:1 be alright or is there something in the curing process that needs to have a...

Adding older soaps (shaved or powdered) to fresh batch at trace?

I got this idea when looking through my supply of previously made batches. some are too oily, some too drying so I was wondering if it would be possible to make a batch that would balance out the old soaps and add the old soaps (shredded and or powdered) to the new batch at trace. Just mix it...

differences between Coconut: water, milk, cream & butter

From my reading of this forum I see a lot of people talking about using various coconut products and it seems like there might be some confusion as to the differences, I know I'm a little confused. I've read about people adding cream in place of water for the lye mix. That just seems plain...

Alcohol for glycerine, clear or M&P soaps - denatured 95% ethanol 5% isopropal

I looked at a number of recipes for glycerine, clear and M&P soaps and most call for some kind of alcohol and state ethanol (drinking kind) or isopropal (rubbing alcohol) is the only kind that works. Most over the counter products contain adulterants which will make the recipe unreliable or...

Same batch different lather from cut bar & grated/pressed bar

I made a fairly basic recipe and included lemon zest. I decided to grate some of the bars and then press the gratings into a different shape. The resulting pressed bars seem to produce a much richer, fuller, fluffier lather than the soap that was just poured into the mold. IDK if this result...

    Shampoo from CP bars possible?

I'd like to make some shampoo and have CP bars of the scent and basically the characteristics of shampoo I want. Is there a known process that works for making shampoo from CP bars? I can add ingredients and process if need be, IDK how normal shampoo is made in the first place..

    Water types, Distilled, deionized, or???

This probably won't help now (depends on where you are located) but if you have a dehumidifier or AC you should save the water that drips off. The dehumidiiers have a hose connection as well as some AC units. Other AC units have a hole that can be used but modified is probably better.

Hand creams - question on texture/consistency

I found a combination of products that makes a strangely semi-solid texture when mixed together in the method I mix it. This product has the consistency of a hair styling wax, maybe like some pomades. It actually ends up a good bit softer than shea butter but similar in hardness. It is very...

    Contracting product testers/reviewers/samplers

I think I have the interest of a very large group/organization, who represents my target market, in being product testers/reviewers. I'm not concerned about any of the financial aspects of the relationship at this point but my main concern is about liability or the like with regards to any...

Quality of KOH and NaOH - what is minimum and effects?

I have seen that some people use food grade lye and others say that technical grade is fine. I'm not sure that food grade is always of a higher % but I think that it does contain less harmful "extras" / pollutants. Some places sell KOH that is 96-98% and others sell 86-90%. IDK what % the NaOH...
