Anyone here in Mid Atlantic Region (Philly - Baltimore area)?

Just wondering how many people are in this area and if anyone is interested in some type of meetup, trade, whatever. I'm not to far from Philly.

Need green coloring from local store - what's usually available?

I have to thank you guys for recommending parsley again! This second batch with fresh parsley worked very well! It was still wet as it was picked a day or so ago, so I put it in the microwave and it dried right out. A few seconds in the coffee grinder and this is what I got: The darker is...

Amber/Brown plastic "marble" containers - any suppliers?

I'm having a difficult time finding jars made of this type of plastic, I don't even know what to call it. It looks something like this: I'm looking from 2, 4 and 8 oz jars. If you know what this pattern of plastic would be called (if other than marble) I'd appreciate your input. I've...

New pour idea - thoughts on how it may work/come out

I haven't done this yet as it will be difficult to set up and I don't want to waste my time if it won't be successful. I'm thinking of a square mould maybe 12" x 12" or 16" x 16" and taking 5 PVC pipes ~ 18" long (length TBD) and placing them in the 4 corners and one in the center - space them...

Need green coloring from local store - what's usually available?

I have a lb of fresh parsley I just picked and am wondering if it will be different to use it fresh. Maybe blend it with a bit of water to help extract the color then strain?

    Another Masterbatching Question.

As long as this isn't lard, tallow shouldn't need to be stored in the fridge. I've had some that I rendered myself on the shelf for 8 months now and it is a white as the day I rendered it. Out of curiosity, how much do you pay for 500 grams?

Need green coloring from local store - what's usually available?

I need to make some green soap ASAP (like today if possible) and need coloring. I've tried dried parsley and it didn't work as hoped (turned brown after a couple days) so I am hoping that there may be something else that may be possible. Can anyone suggest something that may be available at...

Do people still do "traveling salesman" thing - town to town?

I was watching an old movie that had some sales guys selling insurance and vacuums, going door-to-door and town to town. I'm wondering if that sales model is still utilized in any industries and I'm not talking about regional sales like pharmaceutical sales (legit kind to doc's office - not...

    Titanium Dioxide - interesting find...

I've been using TD on and off for a year and found that I never got the true white's that I was expecting and never understood the amounts people used and the color they got from it (they used so little & got good results). I thought that they may have had some special TD or I had some bad...

How soon can I shrink wrap?

Go to Harbor Freight and pick up a cheap heat gun for $20 or $7.99 on sale with a coupon. As far as taping, what kinds of tape or other adhesives have you used? I have been using little pieces of regular 3M scotch and it works perfectly and is as clear as the shrink wrap.

Reason home made soaps don't last as long

People like them more - thus - they use it "more". Using a boring same old mass produced product may not be as "inviting" as a more unique bar that has a great scent and maybe an exfoliant. If the soap has an exfoliant vs one that doesn't then the one with the exfoliant may be used more...

    Castile Soap

From what I've found the word castile doesn't mean a whole lot in some brands and areas of marketing. It originally was a 100% olive oil soap but it seems some have taken the leeway to make it mean that the soap is 100% vegetable oil soap. So, if someone recommends castile, it could be 100%...

EO's health/medical benefits based upon country of origin

I'm not sure which EO's to focus on but I'll pick Peppermint, Lavender and Tea Tree. I have seen peppermint - MENTHA PIPERITA from maybe 10 different countries Tea Tree - MELALEUCA ALTERNIFOLIA from Australia & China Lavender - LAVENDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA from many countries. Being that they are...

Freezing soap when DOS appears - should it stop it while frozen?

If the spots start appearing on the soap will freezing it help to stop the spread or creation of new spots while the soap is frozen?

Sachet packaging (like ketchup packets) for products

We all know the ubiquitous condiment packets of ketchup, mustard & mayo - right? I've found that these are often referred to as sachets. Does anyone here use these for their products? I suspect that a packaging machine may be rather expensive if a retail solution is purchased but a DIY...

    Hemp powder

The reason I had it so long is b/c I thought it had gone bad but didn't want to throw it out after only using it once (it was pricey at an organic foods store). So instead I just let it sit b/c I didn't want to waste the $$ I spent. When I found soaping, I thought it was the perfect place to...

Animal free & Petroleum free products - any special labeling?

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't even thinking about the testing aspect of the products but more of the ingredients such as not containing lard or tallow. From seeing how some people are rather adverse to eating animal products, I would guess that they may have some similar feelings about...

Pre-heat mould before pouring to prevent semi-gel due to mould mass?

I happened to discover that my thick wooden mould may be too dense and extract too much heat from the setting soap. The wood is 3/4" MDF which is much more dense than something like plywood. Has anyone else run into something like this and found a way to get a homogeneous gelling? I'm not...
