My first shaving soap is a success!

I just purchased stearic acid CAS 57-11-4 from SoapGoods based in StoneMtn GA, outside of Atlanta. I have not used it yet but plan to this weekend.

I need help with soy wax (even after a lot of reading)

No. I didn’t zap test it. Do t usually do so unless it looks lye heavy or has white spots to make sure it isn’t lye. Would like to know how the bubbles on your soaps with higher levels of palmitic and stearic bubble. To compare to. I am of course looking for that sweet spot. Lots of creamy...

I need help with soy wax (even after a lot of reading)

I made a one pound batch of soap with 20% GW 415 last Wednesday. The exact recipe is listed above except I did use 90/10 NaOH/KOH. I did use the one where the GW415 is divided into the palmitic, stearic, oleic amounts for the lye calculator. (Was this wrong? Should I have only used the GW...

I need help with soy wax (even after a lot of reading)

No I actually want to try just 20% the first time. Then the next recipe do 30 %. To see the difference in the two amounts. I’m sure I need to keep everything else in the recipe the same. So the one I posted is for 20%.

I need help with soy wax (even after a lot of reading)

So I worked on a recipe last night during some down time. I’m going to post these for your review to make sure I’m working this correctly. I noted that when I plug the GW415 amount in for Oleic Acid that my lye amount was the same as when I put it in separately in the oleic, Stearic, Palmitic...

I need help with soy wax (even after a lot of reading)

I would like to try the Oleic acid (SAP .144) with GW 415 at 20%. I usually use lard, tallow in my recipes but will try it without. Probably cocoa butter or some other butter as I like my Palmitic + Stearic around 37. I understand we have no real numbers for properties of GW 415, just the...

    Lard vs. Soy Wax

Sorry if this has already been addressed. I have just received my soy wax (GW415) in the mail. Do I use the hydrogenated soy wax option or partially hydrogenated soy wax option in soap making friend? From what I’ve read I also need to drop my SF to 2-3. Is this correct? I try to keep my...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I also have started using soy wax. And I love it. I’ve been using it around 10%. In your opinion does 20% make the soap feel waxy. I also do NaOH and KOH at 95/5% to help increase lather as my palmitic +Stearic numbers are close to 30-35. I’m considering going higher on the soy wax and wondered...
