I want to make my own lye. Can I use one of those blue plastic barrels or do I have to use a wooden one.

I just found the sight and hope to get some help for making soap from scratch. I have been do soap for years. Now I want to learn how to do the lye making part, like my mother told me how my grandmother did it.
