What soapy thing have you done today?

HELP NEEDED from the soap wizards! I made a batter that traced nice and slow a couple days ago, for this lovely chopstick swirl shared by Holly on YouTube. It was quite soft the next day so I unmolded it and left it for another 12 hours. Cut with my Hercules wire cutter, and the soap has this...

A new soaper from Rajasthan India

Welcome, @morningdew! You mentioned that soaps dry your skin and you are reducing your amount of coconut oil to a value of 12-14. Many people find even that level is drying. I aim for a value of 5-8 - and going down to zero is fine too. Soap with a very low “cleansing” value will still clean...

    Let’s Talk Soap Dough

@Carly B Ive only made a couple of soap doughs, but I learned today that theyre not all the same! I made a soap this week that included deer tallow and WOW! that stuff hardens up FAST. January 2023 SMF Challenge – Pick a Color, Any Color

@Nicolesica I remember that soap, I loved your colours. Voting was HARD - so many entries and such skillful artistry! I think we all have to go easy on ourselves and remember that we are in the challenges to learn and to have fun. (and I need to keep reminding myself of that 😂😂 - I've already...

    Soap cutter

Thanks, that does make sense and I will trya lower surface. I am getting crooked cuts, and my sharp knife and mitre box make much smoother cuts as well (the wire seems to leave draggy marks although I have the wire VERY taut). I think I will have to get used to drag marks, but I am determined...

    Soap cutter

I must be missing something (talent and skill for starters) - I got a Hercules for Christmas and I’m struggling with it. Maybe I’m making the wire too taut? Maybe I’m not holding the soap properly against the side wall? Or my tongue on the right side of my mouth? 🤷

    Warning: Addiction

Hahaha I’m recovering from my first bout of covid and I’m blaming that for every confusing comment/thought/reaction I’ve had all week. And I’ll keep this excuse going as long as I can.

    Warning: Addiction

I had the same result today. I only waited 30 minutes after combining salts and EOs - maybe should have been longer - then added to rinse cycle. NO fragrance whatsoever after the load spun dry.I did add a bit more EO than was suggested. 🤷🤷. Guess I will go back to putting a few drops of EO onto...

    Warning: Addiction

YES! @Creepy you expressed exactly how I feel 😁 If I’d had any idea 10 months ago how much time and MONEY I’d have spent on soaping by the end of 2022 - I may never have taken the plunge. But this new passion/hobby/learning curve has given me so much in the way of learning and entertainment -...

How do Canadian soap makers stay in business?

Shipping for small orders is insane in Canada. Seems ro be a base fee applies and then weight/size is on top of that. I learned to never buy less than $100 in an order as the shipping cost just isn’t worth it.

How do Canadian soap makers stay in business?

Oh, you are singing the song of my people! I don’t live anywhere near the border but I do envy Canadians who can get product from the USA without paying shipping and duty and customs taxes etc. there are products I would LOVE to try but total costs, especially with the exchange rate, are way too...
