SMF August 2020 Challenge - Zig Zag Cosmic Wave Technique

If you don't have a planer try washing the soap gently instead of slicing it. Light washing is going to get rid of soda ash or a little unevenness in the bar.

SMF August 2020 Challenge - Zig Zag Cosmic Wave Technique

You don't need to submit an entry if you don't want to. You can still vote. I enter every challenge regardless of how my soap looks. It is my parade of the good, bad and fugly.

    Finally using cured soap

I only used canola when I bought the quick mixes from BB. I hated them and have never used canola in a recipe. In my head canola will always be linked with crummy soap.

SMF August 2020 Challenge - Zig Zag Cosmic Wave Technique

I made two. I like the first attempt better. The colors on my second are dull. I might try one more time with something even bolder. I am into brights this season

    Post your happy

We are having family picnic this weekend. I have one son I haven’t seen since February. We tried getting all five kids here at the same time but, that is like herding cats.

    My first bars...lard bars

when I use my “less bubbly“ soap in the shower I use a poof. Works miracles for some of my higher OO soaps.

    Feedback recipe

If it was me I would lower the CO to 20% and up the palm to 30%.

    Tomato leaf for color?

Extra sweaty neem oil soap - not sweat!

I feel your pain. I once had my cat pee on a duffel bag full of kids clothes I was giving to a friend who really needed them! What really made me mad was I had already scheduled the cat's neutering.

    Always running into issues

Micas can definitely speed things up. I have poured off colors at emulsion and had one color thicken and the others remain fluid. Makes me crazy! Take notes on every batch and if it is the mica you will see a pattern.

    FO question

Some scents will fade even at the maximum usage rates. When purchasing FO read the reviews many times they mention scent retention. I use 5% unless a particular FO has a lower usage rate. If I have a 2 oz sample I usually throw it all in when making a 2 lbs batch it is .35 oz more than 5% ...

    Soap Frosting

I use 1.5 times my regular batch, and pour off the extra for frosting. Mix in colors and just leave it until you're done with the batch. It may take a while to set up enough to pipe. I don't gel my high tops. I just leave it under a box and let it go. I have had tiny glycerin rivers where...

    Rebatching.... whipped vs regular

Are they holes or air bubbles or air pockets? If they are just air bubbles or air pockets just let the soap cure and use them as learning bars. Re-batching is a lot of work for air bubbles.

What is your worst acceleration story

I once used a green that went to diarrhea brown. I unmolded the soap, and said homeless soap, cut the bars in half and walked away discouraged. The next day it was green and not as fugly as I thought. Greens are tricky sometimes.

What is your worst acceleration story

That is where my ooops go. I pack it with a washcloth in a ziplock.

What is your worst acceleration story

I am asking because I just had a "non" accelerating FO go from 0 to 60 in a minute. I made my go-to swirl recipe and I was trying the one pot wonder and plop, plop, plop, arrggghhh! I read the FO reviews and none said it accelerated so not sure why it did for me. It really doesn't matter a...
