    Removing fragrance from dishwasher

I always soak my soapy dishes and remove any soap batter then run them through my dishwasher. If handwashing, after the soak, I use Dawn. I have never thrown my dishes in with hard soap batter on them. When draining the water after soaking use a strainer to catch any bits from going down the...

    SMF January Challenge 2021 – Planet/Galaxy Soap

I haven’t used it for a whole soap batch, and I have always mixed with OO then mixed it in with the batter. I did use it with a discoloring FO and it still held as a dark blue. Do you gel? I think you used enough, the only thing I can think of is not gelling or the FO.

    SMF January Challenge 2021 – Planet/Galaxy Soap

@AliOop I used the Nurture dark navy too. I haven't had an issue with it turning grey and I have used it several times. How much did you use?

January 2021 Challenge Entry Thread - Planet/Galaxy Soap

Like Mobjack Bay I was inspired by the NASA and Hubble pictures. Unlike Mobjack Bay, I did a simple ITPS. My scent is glacier bay from NG because I wanted a cold scent. I did include a black hole but I am not sure if it is visible in the photos. Some of you will understand my reference. I...

    Record keeping and notations

I name all my recipes and keep them in a binder with plastic covers. They have fun names like CP1, SAO harder, or GV Shea. When I make a batch I note the date, FO and recipe. I should probably list micas etc. If I use a milk I note that. I don’t sell so if I miss ingredients it isn‘t a...

if I can’t get it planed and beveled it may be a little crude. We can just assume it is still shaggy from the big bang

    SMF January Challenge 2021 – Planet/Galaxy Soap

I finally got to mine today. Nothing like cutting it close. Hubby has some health issues so we were preoccupied but, I really needed to make soap for me! Then what happens? I spilled the oils all over. UGH! At least the lye solution wasn't in them yet, and I soap in the basement. So...

Hey Beginners! What was your first ever soap attempt?

I was at Michael's with my sister and saw the M&P soap. I was looking for something to do so I gave it a try. It turned out okay and I started researching online. Next thing I am knee deep in equipment and molds and 10# blocks of M&P. It was a natural transition to CP. I read everything I...

    Analyzing soap performance

Since I started soaping I kept the ends in a container by the sink. I found that if I use a few at a time, standing at the sink, wasting water (hubby's observation) I can see the differences in recipes. I always use a poof in the shower so all my soaps bubble, but I can tell by my winter leg...

Beginners! What're your favorite soap methods?

They have sample collections that go a long way and from several color group samples I picked the colors I really loved and ordered in large sizes. Nurture soap and TBK Trading have samples too. I recommend samples first.

Beginners! What're your favorite soap methods?

I usually try to match my colors to the FO and I love a ITPS. There are so many variations and my current favorite is a Clyde circular pour. You might find that on your journey your color pallet changes. I love the brights from the Nurture Soap epic collection and have gone more dramatic...

    Soap curing

I put mine on the brown paper that comes with supply orders and I cover the soap with a single layer of cheese cloth. I cure mine on shelves in the basement and have a dehumidifier set to 40% running all the time.

    SMF December Un-Challenge - Fire/Flames

Well I did it. I stuck to my goal and did 12 out of 12 months in this dumpster fire of a year. What a fitting way to end it than going up in flames. So I have done a ring of fire.

    SMF December Un-Challenge - Fire/Flames

I am going to get to this. I can't crumble now when I am so close to my goal. This weekend I am going to attempt my ring of fire..........based on Johnny Cash. We played the song at the end of my dad's funeral. It was his favorite song and we loved the irony.
