    Powdered buttermilk

I use that brand of powdered buttermilk in my triple butter soap. I mix in 1 scoop pp of oils. I add it to the oils and mix it in. Then I wait a couple of minutes and mix it in again. I find that by waiting a minute and mixing a second time it has time to hydrate in the oils. Watch it...

SMF July 2020 Challenge - Welded Soap

I am also thinking that for this challenge I can use a FO that moves a little quicker since I don’t need a lot of time to design while actually making the soap.

Not the only one sweating, in the cellar.....

My basement gets really humid in the summer too. I run a dehumidifier all year to keep my soap in 45% humidity. We just bought a new one a couple of weeks ago because the old one quit on us.

    Crisco in soap?

The soy is a small percentage of the oil in the mix and I add ROE to every batch of soap I make, regardless of the oils used, to avoid DOS.

    Crisco in soap?

Walmart replaced the palm/tallow with a tallow/lard blend. I have used it and it makes a nice hard bar. I was actually surprised how much I liked it. I just used the GV shortening value on soap calc and had no issues at all.

    Coronavirus

It has to do with community and mutual support during a time of crisis. It has to do with a place to go during isolation. A place to laugh about toilet paper, a place to console those who have lost someone. No, it has nothing to do with soap and everything to do with who we are as empathetic...

    Coronavirus

I know, if my great-great grandparents were from Canada and I can prove my family was there in the 1700's can I come?

    Coronavirus

I said it before and will say it again. I can't believe that wearing a mask to protect yourself, and loved ones, has become a hot button political issue. What a sorry state of affairs during a world wide pandemic. We need to be in this together not arguing about who has credibility and who...

    Coronavirus

We have had friends over, outside. Maybe your mom could have a lady's tea outside, just a couple of persons at a time. Chairs spread apart, with individual side tables, is how we have been distant together.

    Coronavirus

Around late February early March my husband was sick. He had a bad chest thing that dragged on. One Saturday night he couldn't breath and he didn't want to go to the hospital. I boiled water and added eucalyptus oil (soap making came in handy) and it loosened him up. The next morning we went...

    Coronavirus

I am also wondering if the protest being outside and most protesters masked will make a difference. I am hoping the numbers don't spike for every state. Then we are back to square one.

    Coronavirus

I believe the there has been a steep learning curve in the treatment process. What I don't agree with is calling over 120,000 a low death rate. That is 120,000 families in mourning and I don't think they care about the percentage that died, only that their loved one did.

    Coronavirus

My girlfriend in Tennessee is planning a 70th birthday trip for her husband to MO. I don't even fathom traveling now. Here in NY we are still socially distancing and wearing masks in public spaces at all times. I wish masks hadn't become such a political pressure button and people would just do...

For those of you that CPOP, when do you cut your soap?

Is the design ugly or did it crumble, separate, have lots of holes, etc? My fugly soap gets donated to my homeless shelter. I cut the bars in half leave it to cure, and put it in a ziplock with a washcloth (new) when it is ready to be used. When I have a bunch I let them know I am coming and...

Does Honey work in M&P soap ?

You can add honey and oatmeal but you need to add the honey at 1/2 tsp per pound of soap and make sure the soap is cool enough when you add and pour the oatmeal so it doesn't sink to the bottom. mix in the honey first before adding the oatmeal.

Are you moving them at all? Sometimes, if you move when it is not quite, set they will ripple.
